98 LS brake question=jamesmetairie 03-03-2008, 02:54 AM I,m looking high and low for an answer. I got a 1998 Lumina, base model (90k miles)without "abs". Car had lousey brakes from the get-go. Awhile back had complete brake job at local brake speciality shop.Car still don,t like to stop .It takes much more distance than a normal car should . Anyone experiencing this with a Monte Carlo? Appreciate any advice. Jim. poppyrodregues 03-03-2008, 01:58 PM Sounds to me like there maybe air in the brake lines causing them to be "lousy". I would take it back and make sure that they bled the brakes, if they did make them do it again and they shouldn't charge you for it. If they dont do it, its easy enough to do it yourself. Hope that helps j cAT 03-04-2008, 02:31 PM I,m looking high and low for an answer. I got a 1998 Lumina, base model (90k miles)without "abs". Car had lousey brakes from the get-go. Jim. this is a common complaint when cheap/poor quality brake material is used .....get the bendix brake pads the higher quality ones and you will see an improvement.....GM does not share the material composition with aftermarket competition.....I myself use a/c delco but it is extremely expensive......but i plan on keeping vehicle 15years.... a family member has 98 z34 and the bendix pads and rotors worked fine..... the only other problem area is caliper pins and pads must be worked to provide braking without restiction of the caliper in its movement as sometimes the pads /pins bind..... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
