Steel braided wire

Where can I find steel braided wire to be used on 1/24th & 1/25th scale cars.

Instead of the obvious like Protech, DetailMaster or PSF hobbies, I'm looking to pick some up without having to wait to order it.

I'm out and desperate......:runaround: LOL

Would an electronics store like Radio shack carrry something like this?

you could strip some wire bare then twist it with a drill,also theres a type of uphostery piping thats looks just like braided wire for much less at a fabric shop

Thin co-axial cable for aerials etc. has braided line inside which you can strip out

Try this from Walmart. It is supposed to be bead necklace wire.
It is good for small wires, brake lines, etc.

Try to find an Eloctronics supplier in your area and ask too see some miniature coax cable(shielded). Some may have an insulation over them that needs stripping. If not go to the craft store and look in the bead section and look at some of the necklace material they have. Also there is some that is used in making Fly fishing lures, these both are elastic tht has a rbbed foil on the outside and some is braided also. Radio Shack will not have anything.Radio Shack does have some good spark plug wire, just ask for 30ga wirewrap wire.

Great ideas, In fact, after having no luck with Radio Shack. I tried to find what Klutz suggested and find the thin coaix cable. I had no luck with that either, evidentally they've all switched over to a heavier gauge of cable.

I went to Micheals craft store and found some stuff, like you said, in the jewelry department that's gonna work out for me. I even found some very small squared off metal beads that I'm going to paint up for my braided line connectors. When I get this engine done, I'll post some pictures.

It's good to know that Walmart has some materials to use too. Great close up shots by the way!

Great job! What kit is that engine from and could you take pictures of the packaging for the stuff you got from Micheals? I'd really, really appreciate it. I'm heading over there tomorrow. Fantastic job!

This wire is also great for simulating fine piano hinges on antique automobiles. Just paint it gunship gray or black and gently sand off the paint on the raised parts of the wire.

When I finished the engine, I was in a rush to get it done to get it sent out to a buddy of mine, that I ripped the couple of packages open and didn't save them. I do know that two different wires and the cylinderical connectors came from the jewelry section as soon as I walked in the store.

I also found some wire that wasn't 'true' metal in the bridal section called bridal bow wire.

Sorry I couldn't of been more of a help~ if you're going to Micheals, you'll see a pretty big selection in the jewelry section.
