What wires did you install? OEM? What plugs? Did you gap them? jsweeter 03-01-2008, 04:06 AM sounds like bad band in the transmission. May need an overhaul. beyondloadedSE 03-02-2008, 03:53 PM sounds like bad band in the transmission. May need an overhaul. Assuming he has the CD4E ATX trans, instead of the MTX-75. But I'm guessing, since it's for his gf, it probably is the ATX. Still waiting for more info on this.....:shakehead beyondloadedSE 03-04-2008, 05:39 PM Is this another thread that goes unanswered by the original poster? :disappoin Why do I even bother posting? altimaracer 03-05-2008, 01:54 AM sorry guys about not reposting...completely forgot and am also at work alot..Damn recession (well almost)... ne way its a 2.0 zetec, automatic (i already know it has nothing to do with vtec and is just a name on the motor, from my assumption to make it sound like its worth a damn..)n e way from reading the post, the transmission theory sounds the best, so having been through 7 transmissions in the nissan altima all my fault, damn i miss the street racing scene, those were the good days (charlotte,nc)..i know what to expect for price but how much longer will this last and is it a big problem...basically if my gf pulls out in front of traffic, which is already slow as is, could it just break and leave her sittin in the middle of traffic... beyondloadedSE 03-05-2008, 05:37 PM sorry guys about not reposting...completely forgot and am also at work alot..Damn recession (well almost)... ne way its a 2.0 zetec, automatic (i already know it has nothing to do with vtec and is just a name on the motor, from my assumption to make it sound like its worth a damn..)n e way from reading the post, the transmission theory sounds the best, so having been through 7 transmissions in the nissan altima all my fault, damn i miss the street racing scene, those were the good days (charlotte,nc)..i know what to expect for price but how much longer will this last and is it a big problem...basically if my gf pulls out in front of traffic, which is already slow as is, could it just break and leave her sittin in the middle of traffic... 7 trannys?! It isn't by chance the same MTX they used in the 95-99? If its not, might be a worth while swap. My friends 95 turbo maxima stock trans was pretty much bulletproof (minus 3rd gear stripping). I think it was making about 603 foot pounds of torque to the wheels before he sold it. Never had a problem at the track either on slicks and 5K clutch dumps. Anyways, back on topic. The trans could very well be the culprit. The CD4E is an absolute piece. Other things that come to mind are timing belt, fuel filter, and fuel pump sock in the fuel tank (I've seen some NASTY ones come out of some early model contours). altimaracer 03-06-2008, 04:38 AM ha, yeah 7, it was the 95, me and my friends thought the transmissions were made of plastic, lol i mostly had problems with the sync, that would go out then i would slowly lose the rest of the gears, then the all to infamous clunking sound after i broke it the rest of the times, the last time it happen it ran out of trans oil but i knew it was leaking because the week before i had snapped the ring inside the transmission that holds the cv axle in.....plus it was like 20 degrees outside and i didn't wanna fill it back up sooo as destiny has it, it broke again....i still miss the damn car oh yeah and the whole story with me knockin out the oil drainage plug cause the car was tooo low, and the many of times i had to take my sock off AND plug that hole so the other 2 quarts wouldn't leak out.lol.....but back to the CONTOUR um the other stuff u mentioned i will have too check that out..it sounds pretty nasty overall its just to get me back and forth cause right now im haven some problems from the qx4..apparently a little problem like some control arms that hold the rear end in can put a whole lot of stress on ur transmission when they are bad but i sort of knew that and just put it off....its barely drivable i drive it once a week too where me and the crew chills at..then back home...n e way.. yeah..i think i have realized i talk about everything else on here but the Contour...LOL..
