does anyone know the service interval for these things., I bought my 01 passport used at around 50000 and now have close to 100000 on it. I know some cars reccomend changing the timing belt,. water pump etc around this mileage. I just did the intake gasket and last summer did plugs

The good thing about the 3.2L V6 engine, if the timing belt breaks it can take out the timing belt covers, but it's unheard of for it to destroy the engine, just so you know.

But, with you being at 100k miles, it's around that time yes...make absolute certain you change out the timing belt tensioner too, this is the part that fails more often then the belt and the waterpump. But do all 3 items while you're there, just so everything's new.

I used all OEM Isuzu parts on mine, I know other timing belts can be a shade different causing a headache for the timing part.

Might as well do all the little coolant hoses you can, while you have more room with the covers off, and replace your S-belt too at the same time.

For the '98+ DOHC engines it was originally 60k miles. But isuzu raised it a couple times and last update says 100k miles. Best to do belt, pump, and tensioner at the same time.

do you know the approximate cost of parts and hours for labor?

I just paid right at $300 for water pump, timing belt, and tensioner from St. Charles. That should give you an idea for parts; as far as labor goes, you will have to determine the rate of your local shop times the hours of repair. I don't know what the 'book' says on this repair (hours part of the equation), but I would not expect it to be less than three or more than five.

Prices I've seen for having it done range from $500-800. Luckily all mine was done the week before I bought it :)

I would do the harmonic balancer as well. Mine failed 10,000 miles after doing the belt and guess what. Had to do the belt again and the belt and the tensioner. The same thing happened to a lady friend I have who has a 99. Anothe $80.00 (or so) would have saved me $600.00
