When I press the Automatic locks in the car they do not lock the car. I have a 2dr 2000 Alero w/ 3.4L. I even tried the passenger side and that doesnt work either. Also when i press lock on my remote the horn beeps but it does not lock the doors anymore. The unlock works fine in all of those scenerios. Does anyone know where the problem is? I currently have to physically push the lock to the lock position to lock my doors.

Sounds like the lock relay is bad, thier is also a fuse for this all are in the driverside fuse box, I'd check and replace if needed.

Thanks that fixed my power locking and unlocking issue. But now I am having the same trouble with my power trunk release. So I checked the trunk release relay and it looks bad as well. There is a bunch of white/greenish residue all around the four prongs. So now I am wondering if there is something greater wrong causing these fuses to go bad or simply coincidence. Is there possibly water/moisture getting near the fuse box causing them to blow?

I discovered my trunk relay was bad when I came out to my car in the morning and the trunk was wide open is this a how the car reacts when the trunk relay goes bad?

Possibly so it will vary. When ours went bad we just didn't have any trunk release from the keyfob or driver's door pushbutton. Trunk stayed closed.

How it will react depends on whether it is stuck in the energized position meaning the contacts will be passing 12 volts constantly to the trunk release solenoid. In our case the relay coil was good so the relay was properly energizing and de-energizing but the contacts were open.

I had this same problem with my door lock and trunk lock on a 1999 Alero, the relay fixed the trunk lock but not the door lock. I also had a lot of signs of corrosion on the relays and fuses and in the box in general. I discovered that the windshield was leaking along the left edge which was running down through the interior and dripping right into the fuse box. I found a complete left hand fuse panel assembly on ebay cheap just haven't had the chance to install it yet.

I am having the exact same issue as the original poster and the poster above me. I also have been getting water leaking into the fuse panel. I have not been able to figure out where it is coming from to this day. I have replaced the door lock relays and it don't work. I think i need to replace the fuse panel. Anyone else ever have this issue and resolve it by replacing the fuse panel.

i fixed this by replacing both the lock and unlock relays and cleaning out the connections with electrical contact cleaner.

It seemed like when i just replaced one relay or the other it would cause problems, but with both replaced, it worked.
