camshaft sensor

does anybody knows how to replace the camshaft sensor in a 2000 pontiac montana and where is it at?

the camshaft sensor is under the power steering resavior.first take the serpentine belt off and mark an arrow toward the front of the van so it will go back on and run the same way it was. you will need some line wrenches the shorter the better. as you have to take the return hose and pressure side of the power steering hoses loose. the powersteering resavoir comes off by taking three bolts out using the pulley holes. there is a #10 bolt holding the sensor in . be sure to clean around the sensor good to prevent dirt and debris from falling in the motor when the sensor comes out. when you get the bolt out ,grab the wires and wiggle the sensopr as you pull on the wires. it will pop out when the o ring clears the hole. before you put the new sensor in wipe some oil on the o ring and push it in lining up the bolt hole.the connector for the sensor is on the serpentine belt guide .it is easier to hook the pressure fitting up before you put the resavoir bolts in. when you hook the hoses back up be careful not to cross thread the fitting on the pressure side.
put back as you took it off . good luck. i gave $21.00 for a camshaft sensor a year ago.

IIRC, I did my cam sensor back in '04 or '05 and I just loosened the power steering pump and moved it out of the way slightly to get better access. I didn't have to remove it. The whole process is a PITA though as everything is cramped in that area, especially if you have to top off the fluid in the pump.

Turn OFF the ignition.
Remove the serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
Remove the attaching bolt.
Remove the sensor.
Inspect the sensor for wear, cracks or leakage if the sensor is not being replaced.
Installation Procedure
Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Replace the O-ring if the O-ring is damaged.



Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the camshaft position sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the retaining bolt to 10 N·m (8 lb ft).

Connect the sensor electrical connector.
Reinstall the serpentine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
