GTP Died after a minute or two -- MAF.scubamoo 02-23-2008, 01:18 AM Hello -- I'm new to the forum but have gained a great amount of info. from you all and just want to say THANK YOU! I bought a '99 Grand Prix GTP with 103K about a month ago. The supercharger was rattling away, the valve cover gaskets were leaking (ugly), and the had a P0171 DTC. I got the car for a good price so I put a little cash into it. Rebuilt the supercharger (bearings and coupler), Thrasher 3.4" pulley, Autolite 104 plugs, MSD 8.5mm plug wires, valve cover gaskets (PITA), K&N FIPK II cold air intake, and replaced fuel filter. Cleared the DTC. Car ran for the first test drive -- about 25 miles during which it idled rough and died (no DTC's). I drove it the next day and it died within 1 block though I was able to start and drive it home a few hours later. Then the car started dying after running for a minute or so while idling. It would idle rough, smooth out then jump between 300 and 2000 rpm's and die -- and not restart. I removed the MAF connection and the car would run but idled rough. I tried cleaning the sensor with some special "MAF sensor cleaner" (basically electrical cleaner) without success. I suspected it might be the fuel pump resistor so I went ahead and installed the relocation kit -- still no change. Today I drove to the auto parts store with the MAF sensor unplugged, bought a new MAF sensor, installed it and presto, all works well. I cleared the MAF low voltage DTC and drove for about 70 miles. My question is, my IM readiness is still not okay/reset. Does this happen on its own after driving a while? I need to pass the emissions test ASAP. Thanks. BNaylor 02-23-2008, 09:02 AM It takes a few drive cycles for IM readiness to set so get out and drive it to get some mileage on it before taking it in for emissions inspection. Good luck. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
