'92 S-10 Blazer wont stay runningmdavis454 02-21-2008, 01:27 PM I recently purchased a 1992 S-10 Blazer to replace my Eclipse for winter. On my test drive the fuel tank was almost empty and it had been sitting outside for 4 days during a MN winter cold streak. The truck fired right up and ran great. Everything worked and it was the best $1,000 I've ever spent. After three weeks or so the truck suddenly didn't start. I disregarded the fact, took my Eclipse and moved on. The next day it fired right up again. 5 days later it died while on my way home from work. I gave it a day to "rest" and tried the next day. Started up, ran, drove a hundred feet, died. That repeated for a few days util it all the sudden just ran great again. It used to be very reliable, but now i worry about it even continuing to run at any full stop, and that is only if the thing starts. On my last trip, the check engine light came on and seconds later, smoke went flying. I dont think it overheated because my temp. gauge was fine, but it sounded like something was boiling... The next day, it started right up, no check engine light, ran great. I love the truck and would love to get it working again. Sorry if this was drawn out or anythng... first time doing this. Thanks for your time. -Maison Note: Its a 1992 Chevy S-10 blazer, 4dr, auto, 4.3L vortec, 138,xxx miles, K&N air filter, MSD ignition, push button 4x4 Headnsouth 02-21-2008, 01:58 PM I'd start by getting CEL checked at a local auto parts. That'll give you somewhere to start the diagnoses. MT-2500 02-21-2008, 04:35 PM Welcome to AF. One thing to watch and check is the egr valve for sticking open or if the electronic egr valve check for as carbon ball under the plunger the next time it does it.
