96 JGC Guages stop working but still powermayford5 02-18-2008, 05:23 PM Have a 1996 JGC that every once in a while the guages all drop to zero and the information center blanks. I still have power and can drive it. To solve this I have to pull over and restart the vehicle. Anyone have an idea what this could be? Thank you Bob D. 02-19-2008, 09:09 AM Try cleaning the battery terminals. mayford5 02-20-2008, 12:43 AM tried that even replaced a battery cable. Still having issues. We thought it could be the alternator because for some reason someone had put on a 90 instead of a 120 so we swapped that out also. Just strange. Is it possible one of the computers is going out? mayford5 02-27-2008, 10:32 AM Has anyone else ever had or worked with this problem before? reekor 02-28-2008, 08:19 AM I have the same issue right now with a 96 also, it too cold out to deal with it right now. My guess is a Battery Temperature Sensor or poor connection at the computer. Have a 1996 JGC that every once in a while the guages all drop to zero and the information center blanks. Thank you lojbeck 03-18-2008, 08:28 PM My 1996JGC had the same problem. There is an electrical connector in the wiring harness just to the left of the glove compartment with aprox. 6 wires, rectangular in shape. This is inside the cab and and be reached without removing any trim. On my Jeep, there was a bad connection at this plug. This caused the wires to heat up, resulting in an bad connection. I simply cut out the connector and installed butt-splices on the wires. BTW, it took me a year to find the solution to this problem. Hope this helps. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
