I'm continuing from the RPMs post. I tried the brake test that a few suggested. I went 70 mph, tapped on brake pedal and the RPMs went up only about 100 RPMs. A brake tap also did shut off the cruise control. Could my problem still be the brake switch??

I was wondering around Advance Auto's website and came across these transmission solenoids. I was wondering if one of these could be the problem.

Thanks so much for your input.

Only a full scan with a trans function scanner will reveal whether this is internal or caused by a faulty solenoid.

I did some research on this and if your transmission works perfectly except that there is no 4th gear someone rebuilt this transmission and screwed up on the rebuild as this is what i found . "parts not installed properly inside tranny"............

It is also highly possible that due to the age/mileage and poor design, the 4th gear splines are stripped and it cannot shift into 4th. I've heard that a bad pressure control solenoid (which causes very hard shifting) can do this over an extended time.
