Can an LS become better than an SS?

Hi Everyone,

Just new to the forums, and as I'm guessing, there are plenty of Impala enthousiasts on this forum, so answering my question won't be very difficult. Can an LS become better- in fact surpass it's bigger sister, the SS? I currently own a 2000 3.8L LS, an it's been very faithful to me so far. But ever since I have it, I've been wondering if it would be possible to squeeze more power out of it's V6? a supercharger has been suggested, but it's far too expensive and complicated, and it's way out of my league. I have been considering an exhaust system, with the intent to raise peak horsepower. But then I found out that by doing so, (without doing any modifications to the engine at all) yes, the HP will go up, but I will lose torque, which I dont like at all. Suggestions, ideas and even an explanation will help my questions, and maybe shed some light on this much-debated subject.

Thanks.

Matt
