2001 Ford Explorer V8KenMartin1 02-04-2008, 11:15 AM When I try to start my 01 Explorer V8 it seams to turn over but take a long time to start. When I turn off the key and try again It will start but it still takes a long time to start. Any Ideas. Ken Martin shorod 02-04-2008, 01:31 PM Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest you check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Take a reading after the first turn of the key from off to Run, then turn the key off, leave off for 5 seconds or so, then back to Run. What is the fuel pressure now? Take another reading with the engine running. When's the last time a tune up was performed on your Explorer? Have you checked the spark plugs and wires or replaced the fuel filter recently? Any other indications there may be an issue such as rough idle? Does the engine speed slow if you turn on the A/C or defroster, indicating a potential Idle Air Control issue? Do you regularly use fuel injector cleaner? -Rod KenMartin1 02-04-2008, 03:28 PM I have never had it tuned up. I did have a simular problem starting the car if the gas tank was low. I took it to a dealer who said it was the fule pump so I had it replaced. now it doesn't matter how much gas I have it still will turn over quite a few times untill it starts. I have tried turning the key to start and after about 10 seconds turning the key off and retrying and sometimes it seams to start faster. I have noticed lately when it starts the engien runs rough for a few seconds the runs normal. After the engien starts it runs great. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
