works good in reverse. put in drive, it goes into gear and it motions to move only about an inch. but will not move any further. thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like you might be low on fluid. If you really want to get the best life out of your auto trans, drain it and refill it with Amsoil synthetic automatic trans fluid. www.amsoil.com
