He said he painted the truck a certain darkbrown or reddish color and then he heated it up with a heat source and then slowly made a hole in it and thats about all he revealed to me

I was wondering the same thing, maybe just with a hot needle? poke it through and drag the shape you want? Or just rip it up with nail cutters???

Those cars look great though. I made a smashed up 50 Chev pickup with a mate, I'll get some pics at the end of the week. We were bored and he didn't want it anymore so we used our imagination.

It is posisble to use a flame to make holes on your model car bodies to simulate rust holes and such but I find that way is not a very controlled method of doing so. What I've done in the past is use a dremel bit and grind out rust holes from the back(inside wheel wells an such) of the model. It has worked great and because most models are molded really thick, you also thin out the plastic in the parts where the rust holes are, resulting in a more to scale thickness in the car's sheetmetal. Also, what I've done is spray paint rust colored primer as my base coat and then took some liquid rubber material and dabbed it on in spots around the rust holes and also in area I was rust spots that havent actually eaten all the way through the metal yet. When I paint the car's actual color all I need to do is take an exacto blade and and peel away the rubber underneat the paint and it produces a realistic effect of the rusted out area being lower than the raised painted parts. Also, sometimes I've just left some of the rubber molding material in some areas to simulate rust bubbles underneath that haven't broken through the paint yet.

About dents and stuff, the only way I know is the flame method as has been mentioned here a bunch of times.
Well, thats all I have to share to about weathering cars...hope these tips help

Hey,
this thread looks great. I burned up some old models last year. With the camera standing next to it. PM me if you want the videos.
