2001 Ranger Edge 3.0Lcteneyck 02-01-2008, 01:36 AM Trunk info 3L V6 with 5 speed tranny Issue.... When i am driving down the highway i hear what i can best describe as a pinging diesel sound coming from my engine when i accelerate. it also happens when i accelerate from a stop and usually at lower rpms (1600 to about 2300). when the truck is not in gear and i rev the engine i don't hear the sound. is this a common issue or something that i should be concerned about. Thanks for any help. toddler62 02-01-2008, 07:42 AM Its sounds like the timing might be off a little, which is set by the computer. I don't think you can adjust this yourself. might be a bad sensor somewhere is my guess. The dieseling sound probably is not good on your engine, Has the check engine light came on? I would say you should probably be concerned a little and have it looked at backerm1 02-01-2008, 11:00 AM it could be nothing, but then again "pinging" can be very destructive to an engine in a short period of time. One garage I went to has a fuel injection service that helps with that. Called BG fuel injection system cleaner. Also try a premium blend gasoline. cteneyck 02-01-2008, 06:19 PM No Check engine light as of yet. and yes the time is electonically controlled i will have my local mechanic go on a test ride with me and see what he says thanks vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
