Fuel Gaugedksob81 01-29-2008, 07:16 PM I am having problems with my gas gauge. For awhile now when I am at 1/4 tank it will fluctuate a little. But the other day I was damn near full (about 7/8th of a tank) and pulled into a gas station for the wife so she could get a bite to eat and while I was sitting there waiting for her to come out I notice my gauge was reading 5/8th of a tank - now there is no way I used 1/4 tank of gas from the home to the gas station, so I checked for a gas leak couldn't find anything. sat back in the jeep and the gauge read 1/2 tank and I could see it drop slowly, I knew there was something wrong. then all of a sudden it drop to nothing then after a second went back up to about 5/8. so I pulled over to the pump and it only took about 4 gallons to fill it up, so I knew it was just the reading that was off, well I went to the carwash and when I was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot I noticed my dash gauges were very dim, so I thought maybe I bumped the dimmer switch. but it was all the way up then the dinger went off the CHECK guages light came on and the voltage gauge was reading nothing and the CHECK BATTERY warning was flashing on the VIC. so I pulled out my multi-meter and checked voltage at the battery with the engine running and was only at 11.5 volts. OK now I know somethings wrong. I got the jeep home thankfully and thinking maybe I have a loose connection at the PCM I wiggled the wires with the engine running and checked and still no voltage on the guage. I shut the jeep off turned it back on and everyhting was normal and has been fine ever since - this was about 2 weeks ago. Well then this morning a similar thing happened with my fuel guage on my way to work, last night I parked it and had a hair over 3/4 tank, then notice on my way to work that I had just a lil over 1/2 tank this morning, NOTE: I only drive about 1 mile to work. when I got to work I checked for leaks and couldn't find any or smell any. I kept the jeep running and could just see the gauge drop down to about 1.4 tank then started coming back up again. Then after work used the remote starter to warm up the jeep and when I came out to get in my gas light was on then after a few seconds it went off any my gauge slowly returned to about 5/8th tank. Anyone have any idea, Fuel Pump Assembly, PCM ??????? Joe rocksteel 01-29-2008, 09:45 PM I am having problems with my gas gauge. For awhile now when I am at 1/4 tank it will fluctuate a little. Joe With the low voltage reading, dim lights and erratic readings on the fuel gauge, it appears you have a bad ground to the dash or maybe a bad , rusty, ground from the battery to the block. Most have a ground from the engine block to the firewall for your ground to the internal components such as the dash. Check these first.
