1990 Trooper 5spd 2.6 CLUTCH Change-out

01-28-2008, 11:16 AM
130,000 miles and I have to replace the clutch in my 1990 Trooper. Have changed a number of clutches over the years so fairly familiar with what needs to be done BUT just looking for advice as to anything I might be on the look-out for or need to know before I start.

I have access to a hydraulic car lift so will be able to work standing upright.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

No thoughts?

Hi, I have an automatic so I am not too familiar with the manual. I have read that if you have the hydraulic clutch to NOT open the fittings if at all possible to eliminate the need to bleed it as it can be a PITA.
While doing it, I would replace the throwout bearing as well, and see if the flywheel needs resurfacing. Other than that, I can't think of much. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice atf. Much appreciated. I'm intending to replace all the moving parts, resurface or replace, if necessary, the flywheel and probably also replace the rear oil seal (crankshaft).
