Rear-end noise (howl)surfnobc2 01-28-2008, 11:00 AM i have a 01' JGC Limited 4.0 108k I have a problem, when i am on the highway going about 60-70 holding the pedal steady i hear nothing. Only when i let my foot off the gas i hear a howl noise?? does anyone know what this could be. I thought it was my roof bars at first until i noticed when i let off the gas i only hear it. I also have a bad rotor though on the back driverside that squeals and shifts the caliper around .. maybe thats just the problem ? ive been told that the rotor isnt going to hurt anything to drive around with im going to replace it soon. any suggestions ??? rocksteel 01-28-2008, 10:24 PM i have a 01' JGC Limited 4.0 108k I have a problem, when i am on the highway going about 60-70 holding the pedal steady i hear nothing. I had the same prob. Put it up in a buddy's shop and used a set of mechanical ears and found I had a rear end bearing going out. Dealership wanted an arm and a leg to repair. Found a local 4 wheel drive facility that replaced for about $300 including the oil. It takes a special tool to spread the rear end housing to get it out. These rear ends are easy to break, so be careful if you do it yourself. First, check out with mech ears on a lift. Someone will have to stay up in the vehicle to operate the accel. Good luck. Mine was an inner bearing. Hopefully yours is an outer bearing in which case you won't need the diff. spreader. tjgindy 02-19-2008, 12:07 AM Not sure if you have this fixed by now, but, I had same exact problem. I put mine on a lift as well, and listened with these electronic ears. I took it to 4 wheel parts place by my house and they put all brand new gears, bearings, and seals for $724. The noise was fixed! I have a Dana 35, on my 99 G. Cherokee Laredo. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
