Hello everyone.

I just spent my day trying to get my Jeep to start. I spent yeasterday evening searching this forum, and think I've got the CPS problem too. The car has been running fine. I drove it to work, did errands at lunch time, and stopped back in my own snowy driveway to drop off my kid. Thats when the car died. I left it sitting in the driveway for about 5 minutes, hopped back in, and it cranked but did not start.

Here's what I did so far.
1. Pulled a spark plug, had my wife crank the car, and observed good spark.
2. Pulled the intake hose off, squirted in some starter fluid, cranked it. No luck.
3. Pulled the coil wire, had my wife crank it, and saw a nice arc to ground.
4. Went to the junkyard to do some exploratory surgery. I observed that on one wreck, one of the three wires going down to the CPS was broken, on another wreck I found the engine ground wire was loose, I pulled apart a distributor to see how the cam sensor worked.
5. Went to the parts store, and bough the CPS, a fuel filter, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, etc.
6. Came home and replaced all that mess, except for the CPS. AZone handed me one with a single bolt hole, and the one I pulled off has two bolt holes. So I'll go get the right one tomorrow and bolt that on.
This car quit while it was warm. I had only one experience, the start prior to when it quit where I had any issue with having to crank it longer than normal. Something suddenly quit.
I am ruling out fuel because most of the postes here for a similar set of symptoms turned out to be ignition related.
Q. Could the CPS suddenly fail? Without any stalling before hand? Could it's failure cause the car to stop running that quick?

Thank you for any advice.

Karl.

My problem was caused by a faulty coil. I found the answer to my problem on this post.
