Ran dry of fuel need help restartingtegseal 01-26-2008, 08:35 PM My dodge ram 3500 cummins turbo diesel ran dry and won't start. I have refilled the canister to the filter and of course put fuel into the tank. Any suggestions on what to try next? Need info asap. Email tegseal@yahoo.com fanworks 01-29-2008, 05:15 AM Leave your gas cap off and crank the engine for a while. Let it rest, then crank again for a while, let it rest, and repeat. It'll take a bit of time to get all the air back out of the system. Chris Stewart 01-29-2008, 09:37 AM Loosen the injector fittings on #1, #3, #4 & #5 injectors. They take a 19mm or 3/4" open end wrench. With the throttle to the floor, crank the engine over a few seconds then check the fittings for wet fuel and tighten the wet ones until the motor starts kicking and tries to start then tighten all the loose ones. What year Dodge is your truck? The 1998.5 to 2002 24 valve motors have a troublesome lift pump design but is easily fixed. rwilber 06-13-2008, 01:46 PM just replaced the lift pump on a 1998.5 diesel...manual says to do it from below by removing starter its easier to do it from the top...remove the fuel filter and you have easy access to the lift pump...cummings doesn't sell the lift pump any more but you can get a carter after maket oem for abt $160 lift pump came with the seal washers 2 per bango bolt...you'll need 4 more if you remove the fuel filter.. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
