rim painting.92talontsiawd 01-24-2008, 09:31 PM does anybody have any tips on how to paint rims and have them come out nice without chipping? cause i have 17" gsx eclipse rims and i wanna repaint them. vanilla gorilla 01-24-2008, 10:42 PM I painted a set for a friends SRT4 a few months ago. Sand them down really good. Get all the shiny off of them. I finished sanded with I think 600 grit... Then clean them good, and spray them, with a good paint and with light even coats. I used Duplicolor engine enamel and I was very impressed with the results. That paint layed down flatter and smoother than any rattle can paint Ive ever used. The finish is slick and not textured and looks like they came from the factory that way. It sticks well and won't chip off, but you still have to be careful on the areas with sharp edges because the paint will want to chip there if you bump it too hard. But you can easily touch it up. http://a838.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/60/l_dd2ccdc74ac5caba16a30a8c6a3f1ee5.jpg MazdaX 01-24-2008, 11:55 PM Eh..with the extremes a rim has to endure being an external component I would say Powder coat it. Or you can pay some shop an excessive amount of money to anodize the metal. gthompson97 01-25-2008, 05:03 AM Pay and have them powdercoated. Otherwise you'll be doing them again once a year if you want to keep them looking factory nice. 92talontsiawd 01-25-2008, 12:33 PM alright thanks.. do u have a rough idea of how much powder coating would cost? cause im on a tight budget lol.. got alot of fines to pay JoeShmoe 01-26-2008, 04:32 PM alright thanks.. do u have a rough idea of how much powder coating would cost? cause im on a tight budget lol.. got alot of fines to pay An arm and a leg, lol.:loser: Seriously, I would think like no more than $90 a wheel. But they will want everything off of it cause they have to sandblast it and then cook it at 450 degress for a while. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
