Scale Motorsport Enzo CF templet set and the FXX

I happened to pick up Tamiya's Ferrari FXX kit this weekend and was checking out the aftermarket for it, I was wondering, how much of the Scale Motorsport Enzo Carbon Fiber set I could use on the FXX...$50 bucks is a bit steep for decals, but if I can use at least 85% on the FXX it would be worth it...

Its $30 bucks on their website, but then they charge $10 for shipping something in the USA that really only costs less than $2.

I just rechecked the website and the set is $50 dollars and shipping is $15 dollars! :runaround::runaround::screwy:

You gotta be kidding me! Anyone else carry this in the US or Canada?

If you are looking for aftermarket parts for FXX, i strongly recommend the Crazy Modler PE set. Its got pretty much everything you need plus you will have some spare for your other cars.

That's ridiculous, especially - according to 360spider (Alex) - they don't fit right (sometimes too big), some of the templates are mirror images of what's needed, and it doesn't include templates for the monocoque.

I had better buy my Carrera GT decals for $30 before SMS raises the price to $50!

Hi, i happen to have one set of them ans ya its really way too big for some parts and inaccurate for others. I strongly recommend to buy just normal CF decals and made your own template yourself. :)

I bought the Carrera GT decals and ended up making my own template because they didn't fit very well and the direction of the fiber(of some parts) did not match those on the real car.

What's really funny is that it comes in an envelope that shows $1.95 postage or whatever after you paid $10.:screwy:

$10 for domestic shipping for 5 sheets of decals is inexcusable. :disappoin For $10, it should be on your doorstep the very next day.

On the other hand, the set is $50 because it does contain 5 sheets of CF decals. The sheets themselves are $8 ea retail, and SMS probably figures that their templates are worth $2 a sheet- so $50 total.

Are the template shapes worth $2 a sheet to you? Only you can decide- but personally if I was doing an FXX (or even an Enzo) I'd rather skip the templates and cut the shapes myself. The money saved would easily cover another sheet for errors, or for the next project. Tamiya tape is terrific for making your own patterns.

P&P means Postage AND Packaging

As far as I know, SMS has a policy (quite sensibly) of not selling their products cheaper than their retailers so don't be surprised if they are not.

Personally, I'd pass on the templates. Too many people have too often criticised their accuracy.

First, there was Spy vs Spy

and now we have Stig vs Stig :D

Are there any tutorials or anything like that, that show how to make your own templates? I was trying to CF the inside of a motorcycle body awhile back, using tape to make templates, and it was just a disaster. I couldnt ever get the take to cooperate to make the template. Dunno if I wasnt doing it right, or what not.

Make your own templates: i am working on that now and it has worked well. I used Tamiya yellow tape to cover everything I needed CF. I peel it off, and it is in the shape that I will need the CF decal.

This tape works well as it is a little flexible and not extremely sticky.

Since taking this picture, I have decaled it all and it worked perfectly.

This way is cheaper than the kits in my opinion.

I hope this helps!

Yep, in fact, there is a tutorial in the how to section I did quite a few years ago now.

Hate to be fussy, but that floormat on the driver's side is matte, not glossy!

Pawlie, you are correct (although not related to this thread) it has been brushed with matte clear since this picture was taken. Thank you for noticing!
