Hi all,

I have an 01 Se X and the seats were terrible. I thought about getting seat cushions or replacement seats but the costs were too high.

I went to an upholsterer and they were able to add 1 inch of high density foam under the cloth of the existing seat bottom and 1/2 inch foam on the back. The seats are now as comfortable as those in my Volvo and I'm not getting a sore butt from them anymore.

The problem with X seats is that the metal frame of the seat tears into the molded foam padding after a while which destroys any support. The upholsterer repaired the tears in the molded foam and then reinforced the area with heavy material so the foam will not tear again. Then they added additional foam over the original foam padding. It was a lot of work, but it only cost $125 per seat which is way cheaper than seat cushions, replacement seats or chiropractic appointments.

I used Tucson Seat Cover but any good auto upholsterer should be able to do the same thing easily. The glue fumes are bad for a couple of days so either close the windows and enjoy the buzz or leave the sunroof open to air it out!
