GM 3800 Series II Type L and Type K Enginesjoshlin1932 01-20-2008, 04:49 PM My aunt has a 1997 Cadillac DeVille that was flooded by Hurricane Ike and I need some advice about what all to check out. I changed the motor oil and checked the transmission and found no water in it. It runs and drives fine but the electric seats, door locks, windows, Etc. do not work. Can you tell what all I need to do so I do not destroy any parts by not properly cleaning everything that I need to be concerned with? I will sure appreciate. BNaylor 01-20-2008, 05:35 PM To start the 3.8L VIN "L" is not a Series II 3800 but a Series I. Lots of differences (too many to mention) and your '96 is fully odb-ii compliant. Also, the horsepower or torque ratings are different. The SII has more power. Stick with a SII 3800 VIN "K" from a '96 and up. Also, stay away from the 95 SII 3800 because emissions control is different. 1995 was the transition period from odb-i to odb-ii. No MAP sensor, etc. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
