You are supposed to have an E4ME on that engine. You have an M4ME. The difference is the E4ME is an electronic feedback carb, while the M4 is not. If you are getting a service engine soon light, this is why. The circled lead in the top picture is for the throttle position sensor, the circled lead in the lower pic is for the M/C solenoid.

The E4ME will have the two electric connectors on them where the wires you have will hook up:

Good luck, I have seen those carbs go for $500+ new and remanufactured

you may want to try and find one in a junkyard and have it rebuilt...

heres a link to the napa site for an 88 chev caprice 5.0L 305

Thanks alot ,

I looked in that site and found these carbs and i don't know which is better for my car.

The first one:
http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=NRC&PartNumber=4477&Description=Carburetor+-+Remfd

Its says , Remfd , does that means rebuilt ? and does it last long like a new one?

The second one:
http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7356075&Description=Carburetor+-+New+-+Holley

The third one:
http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7356076&Description=Carburetor+-+New+-+Holley

I dont care about power because i don't expect alot from a 305 , i just want my car to run like a new one .

The first carb you had in your link is the one you need - the other two will not work any better than the one you have now.

j cAT - that was unnecessary.

if he doesnt still have the factory original distributor and sensors on the engine then its gonna do no good to put an E4ME back on it

i just saw a nice E4ME for sale on thirdgen.org for 50 bucks

ppl practically give good E4ME carbs away

ppl remove these electronic systems all the time

i have converted away from it billions of time

i just threw away an E4ME carb to the shredder the other day on a scrap load i took in

no reason to keep them here

i still do have one v-8 ESc distributor here however

i have a 3.8L one as well

i notice that he has the remote coil TBI type distributor on his

interesting...

88 was the last year for carb on the caprices BTW

87 for camaros and firebirds

86 for trucks

good luck!
