what would cause gas to appear under the valve cover of an 1990 audi 80. it is not spewing out of anything that i can see. it is all up under the valve cover, pulling on the left side of the cover. The car wont start unless you put the gas pedal to the floor. then you smell a funny smell of gas and then you see it all around the valve cover and you can see where it leaks from the cover to the timing and that belt is spraying all over the rest of the engine. i am lost at this point. the car does not start with out the gas pedal all the way to the floor and if you get it to start and let off the gas pedal the car dies out. So yes i am very lost at this point.

Too general a question ,certain models/engines may have different causes.

what would cause gas to appear under the valve cover of a car?? timing? cracks?
this is tooooooo general a question but one example would be the fuel regulator diaphram ruptured or mechanical fuel pump mounted on engine...........better get that fixed as your oil is trashed and so will your engine very soon.....
