ok, so my parking brake light wont turn off, so i screwed with it for a little, and still didnt turn off, so i drove the car home with the ANNOYING red light starring me in the face the whole way! Once I got here, I pulled apart the center consol, thinking it was something stuck in the switch, nothings stuck, tried unplugging it and still on, then tried to use a jumper and ground it to as much shit as possible, and it STILL stayed on! WTF? :banghead:

I guess the sensor has shit the bed. Mine does the same thing, but it doesnt stay on all the time...it comes and goes. I got used to it.

The parking break switch sensor. It should be somewhere in the center console.

That sucsk ass, but yeah the swith should like a nipple at very base of where the parking starts to angle up. Looks like a trip to the junkyard.

Does the ebrake have a fuse?

It's on some fuse, but doesn't have its own.

Try unplugging it, taking out the battery, and then putting the battery back in and see if that keeps the light off. Only other way I can think without replacing to get the light off.

does this vehicals mastercylinder have a float in the resavuar? if so, that turns on the light to let you know your low on fluid.
just a thought

No it does not.

As Kevin always says, an alternator that's shitting the bed will have some freaky effects on the electrical system of the car. I'd check the parking break system first.

my alternator is fine... i think, i mean my battery is always fully charger, it always starts right up... just the parking light... played with it for several hours today and i still cant figure it out...

Edit: last night was the first freeze in a LONG time... like 2 years... could this have been a factor?

Its an old car....sensors and stuff are going to start going bad on a regular basis.

Well I guess just check your alternator first. I f we can rule that thing out it makes things not as difficult. If after doing that and finding out my alt was good i would go to the junkyard and get another switch.

Our cars do have a little float in the brake resevoir that turns the brake light on when your low on fluid.

My cars has a weird brake light to. It fades in and out with the amount of gas you give it. The more you press the gas down the brighter it is. very strange

I am having a problem basically the same as this.

When it is cold out it nearly always comes on when I make a left hand turn! :eek7: It will stay on until I make a hard right hand turn. I started trying to figure it out a day or so ago and found that my fluid was low but I haven't added any yet so I don't know for sure if it will actually fix it or not. And yes I did slap in a new switch and it didnt help.

That was your problem? You were low on fluid?

P.S. this thread was only a month old and what he said pertained to the topic 100% so I don't think he was in the wrong.

i know... lol but it was sad that for about a good week or 2 i didnt think of even checking the brake fluid levels... :banghead: lets let this thread die in peace...

Before we let this thread die, I just want to add something...BLEED THE BRAKES! Don't ask why, I'm not sure if these cars can sense an air pocket in the brake system but this will work for sure. I've had this happen twice since I've owned my car. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me the first time, the second time I noticed that the light instantly went off after bleeding all 4 brakes and has stayed off since the last bleed. Since then I recalled that I had gotten the light to go off the first time because I had to bleed all 4 brakes after painting my calipers. I didn't realize it until I bled the brakes the second time when I had to replace a caliper. Been a long time since the last bleed, and no annoying red brake light :)

Thats strange. I always thought that the light was just from the parking brake. My eclipse does it, my civic does it, and my srt4 does it...lol

The low fluid sensor in the brake resivor can also cause the light. The ebay is just grounding a wire so thats easy to tell if thats the problem. Never heard of air though, thats interesting.
