OBD ll scan tool is required to obtain and clear diagnostic trouble codes on 1996 and later models. The system is accessed at the 16 pin Data Link Connector located under the drivers dash area. FYI the 1.8 and 1.9 engines can be jumped at the connector, but 2.0 require a scanner. If you go to an Auto Zone parts they will hookup their scanner and pull the codes for you free of charge.

thanks Davescort97 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=272780). I have a question but, I have no idea if you or anyone else here will know what I'm asking but I'll ask and see what happens? I have a palm IIIc and downloaded diagnostic software for my 94 eagle talon and I was wondering if there was diagnostic software for 96+ ford escorts for the palm IIIc?

Yes, diagnostic software is available to be downloaded for your palmiiic. Search the web under palmiiic OBD-II auto diagnostic software. I think you will find what you are looking for.
