I'm having a problem with the smartrack not engaging. I set it up on jack-stands and put it in drive, rear wheels spin but no current going to motor on trans case. I cut the 2 wires and used a battery charger to apply voltage to the motor and the system engaged just fine. I'm trying to figure out how the electrical part of this is supposed to work, but can't find any wiring diagrams on this in any manuals I checked (Haynes, Chilton's, Motor).

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

If a NV 136 transfer case it is computerized and automatic engagement is controled by the transfer case computer.
You may not be able to test or get it to engage on a hoist or jack stands.

Your best plan of attact on it is to get it on a good transmission /transfer case/engine capable scanner and get all codes and post back codes.

Is the service transfer case or check engine light staying on?

MT, thanks for the reply. No cel or stc light on, no codes showing on OBD II scanner but Im guessing the trans codes wouldn't show up on there, right?

I also tested it on ice and snow to see if I could get it to engage but no success. Will probably contact trans shop tomorrow to if they would have a scanner to pull trans codes.

Again thanks for the quick reply and I'll post here on what I find.

Yes OBD11 only gets into engine and some transmission codes.
You need a transmission /engine/transfer case capable scanner.
If they gert any C codes post back code no.
Good luck

Check the fuse panel for a blown or missing fuse.

I had the same problem on my 99 trailblazer last month, turned out to be a disconnected vacum line

Thanks for the good info but this particular transfer case is electrical with no vacuum lines.

Are there any directions or pictures to help me change the transmission control solenoid?

Start a new thread/post and give all of your info.
Like what it is doing or not doing and why you want to change the solenoid.
