'92 XJ Cherokee--is it time to say goodbye?Carlson327 01-15-2008, 09:46 PM Took the baby to the shop to get the exhaust system checked out. One thing has led to another...now we're talking tie rod ends, steering gear AND a complete new exhaust system...totaling mucho buck$. Wife won't drive the thing any longer due to the steering being rather loose. I've replaced a lot of parts over the past few years. Bought in May 2001. Now has 170K miles. I've replaced: wiper motors (front and rear), water pump, radiator and hoses, steering gear, shocks x 4, windshield, fuel pump and sending unit, front brake rotors and pads, rear brake shoes, newer tires, decent battery. Heck, I even fixed all the friggin oil leaks (rear main seal, etc.) Anyway, I came to post here because I know there are some real genuine Jeep lovers. I think it's time to pass this along to someone who's looking for a good running Jeep. This would be an awesome donor (or receiver for that matter). Body is in decent shape. If you don't do the repair work yourself, be prepared to spend $1,500 in repairs. Worth it to someone out there? dave92cherokee 01-15-2008, 10:24 PM Are you looking to sell it or just give away? Carlson327 01-20-2008, 03:41 PM I'm looking to sell it. If you are in the Chicago area, I'll be posting it on Craig's list soon. Asking $1750. thundergod1320 02-01-2008, 07:35 PM Git yer butt to the parts store an fixify it!!! The engines in these babys run nearly forever if you feed them right! A couple of t rod ends and some pipes, I'll bet the cat is still ok, You can probably upgrade muffler and still come in under 1500. Where you gonna get another ride that cheap?? dave92cherokee 02-02-2008, 12:33 AM From the description that you gave of it needing TRE's, exhaust (which is probably only manifold actually needed), and steering gear it sounds like you're getting the short end of the stick without vaseline from the repair shop. If you bought everything that you need and replace it yourself which is extremely easy to do then it is only about half of what you said it would cost. I just added it up and for a new steering gear, ENTIRE exhaust system, and all 4 tre's it only comes to 730. So with that said you might want to keep it and do the work yourself or find a different shop that's not gonna take you for a ride on price. thundergod1320 02-02-2008, 09:07 AM I'ts those gold plated parts that get ya every time!!! citizen@large 02-02-2008, 11:51 AM Dude... Find some Jeep group in your area, make some friends, buy some beer, and get at her! What are you thinking man?!?! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
