Top off the tank and it doesn't do it. It has had a couple of fuel pumps replaced. Could someone not have put it back together right? Thanks The pickup for the fuel pump isn't all the way to the bottom of the tank. It could have been not put back together right. The easiest thing to do and the thing that will cost you the least amount of money is to always top the fuel tank off after driving about 100 or less miles. The reason I say this is that if the fuel pump in the tank is immersed in gas it will be lubricated and it will run cooler than on a nearly empty tank. There will be less water condensation in the tank which will eventually cause rust and fuel filter problems. I've always practiced this myself and now have 165k on the original pump. It will drive better on a full tank than it will with an empty one. tripletdaddy 01-14-2008, 01:48 AM Did it just start doing this or ever since the repair? Either way, it makes me wonder if the pump is no longer firmly attached. I vaguely recall some of them having a decending hose to the pump....strap...nylon tie...it's getting kinda of fuzzy. I'm not personally familiar with that vehicle's pump, though it probably is similar to my 95 taurus. The other thought is, are you putting more gas in the tank than you used to. Another words, before it may have been 10 gals at E and is now 10 at 1/4 tank? This would mean that the tank level sender is down lower in the tank and you really are out of gas and the pump is ok, hopefully. If this happened right after the last repair, that's ok and better than the pump possibly loose. But if either condition developed later on, I personally would look at it to be sure everything is alright. I wouldn't want those things loose in the tank. I just looked at the Autozone repair guide for your vehicle. Boy, I wish the ones I've done were that accessible! No tank to drain and drop! If you don't mind doing it yourself, it doesn't look too bad to do, but follow every safety point and direction to a T and have good ventilation as you are dealing with gas!!! madness67203 01-15-2008, 05:25 PM I just put a new pump in it. It is my dad's car I tell him to not run it low all the time becaue the fuel in the tank keeps it cool. He said it just sucks when u go on trips lol. I told him to just replace it then. It was warranty so no bigge thanks for all the replies guys vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
