ford escort lx td over revs itself after idle?cossie25 01-11-2008, 01:47 PM Please could someone help me I have an L reg ford escort lx 1.8 turbo diesel that has done 160,000 miles,if i sit with the engine running at idle for about 3 to 5 minutes[waiting or in traffic] when i touch the accelerator to pull away the revs shoot right up by themselves to over 6000rpm[forcing me to dip the clutch or accelerate off up the road] and i have to turn the engine off.When i restart it,it is fine. please help:screwy: tripletdaddy 01-12-2008, 11:29 PM That's weird. This is outside my area of direct experience, but maybe... It sounds like the governor is broken, if it has a mechanical one. If it is electronically controlled, there's probably a rpm sensor that may not be working right or the processor is not working right.
