91 PA Backfiring and No Power

I have a 1991 Buick park ave. It was running great then all of a sudden it wouldn't take the gas and kept back firering. no power. so i was able to reach a parking lot. and sat there for a 1/2 hour and it started and ran fine. Does anyone have any answers?
