Most auto parts stores will hook up a code scanner (for free) to your car and give you a printout of the error codes that are causing your Check Engine light to come on.

ditto here:

problem is our cars (I have a '95 s/c too) have a 16 pin connector hooked to OBD1 which looks like that:

\ x x x o o x x o /
\o x o x x o x o/

where:
x = empty;
o = connection.

an obd2 scanner will not read codes and I don't know if you can short two pins (or which to short) to get the check engine light to blink the codes out.

I'll most likely order an interface cable from those guys:

good luck!

I do remember my local auto parts store having a bit of trouble reading the codes at first due to the uniqueness of the '95 SC connector, but they eventually got it to accurately read the codes. They had several different options available on their scanner and they found the one that worked. Unfortunately I do not remember what that option was.
