Hello. I come across a problem once again on my black stallion . I have a 2001 lincoln ls V8 (3.9)liter. I have replaced the ignition coils several times, as well as, the spark plugs. I started the car one day and it started to rev it self in idle and then I heard a popping noise. So I went to replaced the spark plugs once again. As I take them off the spark plug smells like raw gas. And some of the coils have oil around the rubber part. I put new motorcraft spark plug. The car is quick to start, and after a second or two it starts popping again. Can someone help me. :banghead::confused:

the popping is likely mis-fires.

The oil is sneaking past the vavle cover gasket - a common issue with 00-early 03. Do a search on this forum - there are quite a few writeups on it.

If you DIY - there gaskets are $35 each - if you go to the dealer - big$ in labour ($500 - $800)

the oil will ruin the coils.
