4x4 Hard to Control 97 dodge ram1500 sportizzyrayd 01-05-2008, 04:17 AM When driving in 4x4, the steering pulls to the left <drivers side> On snowy roads or ice, Very Hard to Control on the road. I have to grab the steering wheel to the right to keep the truck from loosing contol. When I am out of 4x4 the truck drives great. The alignment is Fine. Any Suggestions would be great Thanks Izzyrayd izzyrayd 01-07-2008, 12:21 PM When driving in 4x4, the steering pulls to the left <drivers side> On snowy roads or ice, Very Hard to Control on the road. You can’t all ways have instant results. This sounds like a problem in the differential. The driver side carrier bearing is probably bad and when the drive shaft is pushing the axel to move its binding against the shot bearing. Though I’ve never seen or heard of this problem so this is my best guess. Only other things could be your alignment (but you said it was fine) or you have two different sized tires on the front izzyrayd 01-09-2008, 12:57 AM Hey Thanks For The Reply My Patience on waiting is not The Greatest!!! Someone also Said that bearing could be locking up on the side that pulls!! Thanks Again izzyrayd rockwood84 01-09-2008, 12:05 PM you could also only have one front wheel pulling due to a stripped spline and that will do what you are describing. get someone to watch the front end and see whats going on . do not do it on blacktop put it on snow or something softer than concrete or blacktop. post back what you hear and see on the front end HV2JEEP 01-09-2008, 12:12 PM IF IT WERE A STRIPPED SPLINE OR BROKEN AXEL SHAFT ON AN OPEN DIF WOULDN’T IT JUST NOT HAVE ANY DRIVE FROM THE FRONT AXEL. THE BROKEN SIDE WOULD JUST SPIN AND THE OPPOSITE SIDE WOULDN’T GET ANY MOVEMENT UN LESS THEIR WERE A LOCKER OR LIMITED SLIP. rockwood84 01-10-2008, 01:56 PM if it is stripped all the way off but on snow and ice it could be grabbing just enough to cause it to grab and jerk free then grab again. now if it were dirt or mud then it would act different. but also could be in the differental also not saying it isn't.just saying snow and ice it does not take much of a slip too get crazy quick ..... izzyrayd 01-23-2008, 01:51 AM if it is stripped all the way off but on snow and ice it could be grabbing just enough to cause it to grab and jerk free then grab again. now if it were dirt or mud then it would act different. but also could be in the differental also not saying it isn't.just saying snow and ice it does not take much of a slip too get crazy quick ..... Hello, Thanks for everyones Help, The Problem Turned out to be Striped Spline and In the Differential. Thanks Alot Everones Input Very Helpful Izzyrayd rockwood84 01-23-2008, 12:44 PM had a '68 dodge pwer wagon that did the same thing in the mud it would not be as bad but on snow or ice mix it would make you hold the steering to fight the pull of the front end then it would let loose a little then you would think you wasn't gonna get it cut back before you hit the ditch then be back to fighting the wheel to hold it in the road. glad you got her figured out vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
