The EPA allows that?!

Burning oil here is illegal, even if it is legal where you are, it will dump out tons of pollution... and that's coming from me, who, is by no means "green"

The U.S. EPA allows burning of waste oil as an accepted means of disposal. If done properly, it's no worse than #2 kerosene particulate emissions. That's why some municipalities require permits for waste oil burning, and some have tried to eliminate it - It's about impossible to predict what some people will do without training and supervision.
