I thought I was going to have to get an IAC for my 97. It wouldn't idle at all, would just die as soon as I let off the gas. I called AZ and they said I would have to come down and put a deposit on it before they could order it. Went out to the car, started it up and it idled but ran rough. I took the IAC off and oiled the plunger with some 3 in 1 oil and it smoothed right out.

I see them for less than $100 at www.rockauto.com. Though it wouldnt be much less with shipping included. We replaced one when our 92 Escort was 11 years old, and about 140,000 miles. The idle would cycle up and down - and often stall if in 'drive' at a light.
