97 Escort--Starting prob; Fuel Injector Relay?

Car wouldn't start one day. Cranks over well, just won't start. Mechanic checked it out and says I need to replace the computer module underneath the air cleaner assembly. I'm thinking at first he means the main ECM under the dash, but he goes on to explain that there is no relay in this case and that the "computer" module acts as the relay (I'm doing this all over the phone as the car is at my dad's house way across town).
I check my Haynes escort manual and the only thing the diagram shows under the air cleaner is called the "Fuel Injector Main Relay". So I'm thinking perhaps this mechanic doesn't know it's just a relay and not some computer module?
In any case, after doing some research it is very likely this Fuel Injector Main Relay is the cause. The timing belt is fine and was replaced about 5 months ago. Does this sound right, and if so, where the hell do I get one of these "Fuel Injector Main Relays"? Auto Zone or the like, dealer or am I salvage yard bound?

Try a parts store, NAPA is good as a lot of service places are NAPA service centers and use their parts. If you can find out the exact name you can try rock-auto.com for the part you need.

The name of it is the CCRM (constant control relay module). It has relays for the cooling fans, the AC compressor clutch and the fuel pump. I've heard it is expensive. I don't know how much. The salvage would be the place to get one. It is underneath the air cleaner mounted on the bottom of the strut. Can you hear the fuel pump making a whirring sound when the key is turned on , but not to start?
If you can the relay is probably all right.

.. Ford will also sell, or at least did before, the single individual relays ... without the base ... much cheaper.
