2006 Rattle at 50-70mphEyebolt 12-27-2007, 10:24 AM With my 2006 extended cab Z-71...I've been hear a some sort of rattle when I'm going at highway type speeds. I can't tell if it is interior or exterior. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere in my dash board or just outside by the windshield or driver side window. Since it really only seems to be noticeable at speed...it's kinda hard to pin down. Any ideas??? Sonny01 12-27-2007, 11:10 AM Loose nut behind the wheel? I had a similar noise and it drove me batty. I finally took the left kick panel off under the steering wheel and found a plate attached to the steering column with four bolts...two nuts were missing and the other two were loose...I found one of the lost nuts, reinstalled it and tightened them all and the noise went away. maxwedge 12-27-2007, 11:20 AM Due respect here, but realistically how can anyone determine or guess at this from a distance. Someone has to drive the vehicle who is familiar with it's characteristics and then try to determine the source of the noise. Eyebolt 12-27-2007, 11:58 AM Due respect here, but realistically how can anyone determine or guess at this from a distance. Someone has to drive the vehicle who is familiar with it's characteristics and then try to determine the source of the noise. I'm not expecting anyone to pin point the problem...but be able to give me ideas of things to look at from their past experience with a similar vehicle (as in the above post). I just got this truck over the summer...so someone who has had one for a while...or been around this forum...might be able to say something like, "Oh...a lot of people seem to have this widget loose...so you might want to check that." Something of that sort would point to a common problem that others have had that I would not have known about without asking. Considering that this forum has always been a great source of information, it is always one of the first places I look while troubleshooting an issue. So...realistically...it can only help to ask people with experience with a truck like mine if they have had any similar issue. After all, isn't that one of the purposes of this forum? paulfischer 12-27-2007, 07:00 PM Hello there- I have a 04 suburban had I had a rattle, mine was the antenna. Tightened it up, rattle was gone. Paul 95tahoe4x4 12-27-2007, 07:25 PM I had a rattle that drove me insane, I checked everything from exhaust manifold shields to the antenna, it turned out the be the friggin shielding/mounting of the EMERGENCY BRAKE! Tightened screws and rattle poof, gone. I found it by puting my hand under the dash while it rattled, then I could make it rattle at whim. maxwedge 12-27-2007, 08:16 PM See what I mean, these suggestions are viable in themselves, but a noise at 70, still unrealistic in this environment. You are driving the truck and cannot determine even if the noise is inside or outside the truck, what chance do we stand xxxx miles away, this is my point. Not criticizing your request for help this is what we do, but this enters realm of impossibility. high beam 12-30-2007, 10:33 AM I had a similar problem when I bought my 05 Silverado. I took it back to the dealership several times. Finally they took the service manager for a test ride. When he heard the noise he reached down and pulled back on the transfer case shift lever while it was in neutral and the rattling noise went away. They said there is a known issue with this. If I remember correctly they put some kind of spongy washers in the tranfer case and it went away for awhile. It's not as loud as it use to be and as long as I know it's hurting anything I don't worry about it anymore. jwichman 01-21-2008, 05:37 PM Does your truck have a bug shield/deflector on the hood? If so this has been known to cause a rattling sound at one or both sides of the windshield, something to do with the molding around the windshield. Mine didn't rattle at all until I put a bug deflector on, now I get the rattle at higher speeds or when driving into a heavy head wind. New deflectors come with double sided tape to help eliminate the rattle although I'm not exactly sure how it is used. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
