1997 Cavalier 2.2L P300 - random Multiple Cylinder misfireRedWind 12-26-2007, 12:27 AM I have been having this problem for a while now and have been taking my time to try and fix it but now that inspection is coming up I have need to get this fix ASAP I have replaced the spark plugs and wires/ the 2&3 coil pack now I have to find the problem quick so I figrued I would post it on here and see if anyone can help. for a little more info on the problem it only happens when at high way speed or when conditions suck like snow or rain. it also went away when I put heat in my tank to remove water from my tank and stayed off until it got down to a 1/4 of a tank and then poped back on. All help appreciated thanks. 16th hippy 12-26-2007, 04:10 AM what about the 1-4 coil pack? are the tower terminals clean and corrosion free? is the light blinking as you are driving and/or having the problems? is the car even running bad, or just the light on? RedWind 12-26-2007, 01:31 PM I changed the 2&3 coil pack because the compresion was low in those cylinders, yes they are corrosion free, No the light does not blink just pops on at highway speeds or in bad conditions as I said, and the engine is a little nosier then what a little stock 4 cylinder should be. and a little ticking nouse that folows the RPMs what I mean by that is the more RPMs the faster the clicks. 16th hippy 12-29-2007, 04:56 AM ok, if compression is low in those cylinders, replacing the coil pack will do no good. loss of compression in a cylinder can be a result of but not limited to: head gasket, valve seats, bent valves, sticking valves, bad piston rings, pushrods bent, lifter(s) collapsed, and so on. some of those items can also make a "ticking" noise. what were the compression readings from ALL 4 cylinders? also, try getting gas from a different place, could be more water. replace fuel filter too if you suspect water contamination. RedWind 01-06-2008, 03:23 PM for an update I have replaced the fuel filter also the crankeshaft postion sensior the other coil pack the wires and the spark plug, I pulled of the wire and put it on a spare plug and turned it on and watched it spark and on the 1,2,4 cylinders it skips a spark every once in a while RedWind 01-07-2008, 11:17 PM No one knows not even a push in the right direction? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
