I just got myself a 95 civic coupe dx with a swapped d16 vtec engine. Unfortunately I'm no whiz at engines, and I bought the car simply cause it ran, but I'm slowly learning there's more then meets the eye with it. How do I go about finding the specs for my engine? Like.... Where do I look? Thanks for putting up with a dumb question...

Single cam shaft, btw. Sorry if I sound noob, but I never thought I'd get really into my car until I got myself a civic and learned how much more fun it is to drive now

Wait untill you find how to activate the vtec function, with a P28 ecu and hooking up just 2 wires from the ecu and one to ground. Then install a chip in the P28 ecu to boost up some more horses, intake, header, cat-back, a throttle body from a Acura Integra automatic and on........that's some!!!!! you will find more here....

You know, ive been reading alot of these posts. Originanly wasnt going to say anything, but ive owned both motors. I have to say that the d16z6 was the better one. Even stock i was keeping up with the d15b motor, you wana know why, every drivers different. The motors performance also depends on the driver. Ive tinkered with the motor alittle and have put AEM true power pulleys, AEM cold air intake, Venom air intake, a prelude throttle body, aluminum flywheel, stage 2 clutch, upgraded the ecu to better maintain fuel air ratio so the engine light doesnt come on when theres alot of air going into the motor, and alot of internal work to the motor. Ive been racing wrx, nissan 300zx, and my budys integra and I have to say I give them a run for there money and occasionallyhave to loan some since they dont have enough. I currently have the motor apart again for more winter time tinkering. Also still get upwards of around 28 miles to the gallon.(maybe) know i can feel up at $18 and it lasts almost 2 weeks.

well i have an even better question.... i wanna put a d16z6 head on a d15b2 block but i have a buddy of mine that wants to give me his d16A9 pistons..... can they fit? or isnt the engine goin to hold it???

I believe the a9 is dohc engine, so i dont think it would fit properly, but i might be mistaken. I used a set of performance pistons that have been forged with 2.95 bore- 244 grams- and 11.4 comp. ratio. The other upside to having forged pistons is if your wanting to add a turbo late on thos are the best pistons to use since they withstand a higher combustion force. But a bone stock d16z6 motor can take up to 6lbs of boost. I know it doesnt sound like much, but 6lbs with a minor ecu upgrade and a vtech controller and its enough. But if your wanting more boost youd need to go through the motor and check everything and get a bunch of motor upgrades so you dont blow the motor. As far as changing heads on the block D15B is smaller, but can rev higher because of the d16 rod length in a d15 stroke. This allows a shorter transmission without sacrificing max MPH per gear there by canceling out the loss of torque because of the smaller displacement.

i have a 93 Del Sol si witch comes with the d16z6 but its swapped with a d15b jdm. the d16z6 red lines at 6800 rpm and the d15b red lines at 8000 rpm witch make a hell of a difference.

I have a coupe that has just recently spun a bearing which is the d16z6. I am now importing a d15b from japan. I personally think the d15b. It has virtually the same head as the z6 and from riding with my cousin who had a d15b. It seems to get up a bit quicker than my z6.
