Penalty for driving without insurance?CraniumDesigns 02-11-2003, 01:57 AM My friend is driving without insurance. What is the penalty in CA for that if you get caught? filmfiend81 02-11-2003, 02:30 AM I think your license gets suspended for a year or something like that. All I know is it's a big deal. I think as the law stands, you get youre license suspended for a year like mentioned above, AS WELL AS they are supposed to tow and impound your car for at least 30 days, as well as arrest you. Yes, you can be arrested for driving without insurance. The penalties for it, ar pretty similar to if you get a DUI. Melt 02-11-2003, 12:16 PM it isnt that harsh ... when I went to court for running a red light all these other assclowns were in there for driving without registration / liscenses / and all sorts of other bad shit and the judge was dismissing shit left and right. KrNxRaCer00 02-11-2003, 01:04 PM damn...cali is tough on u guys. i got ticketed for driving without proof of insurance (had my insurance card at home), an was given a 450 dollar fine. i thought that was harsh as hell...damn...1 year w/ no driving, i'd go mad. OGRED 02-11-2003, 05:41 PM my girlfriend got pulled over and didnt have current insurance and the cop said it was a 1 year suspension, and like 1500 fine, but she cried and he gave her a ticket for running a red light B16EJ1 02-11-2003, 05:47 PM Depends on who you hit with no insurance. On the average you'll catch a beat down at least.:angryfire khead717 02-12-2003, 02:07 AM My friend's car got hit by a guy who doesn't have insurance, and the cop came and gave him a ticket and that's it. no impound or whatever. I got hit one time and i didn't have insurance, and the cop gave me a ticket and i went to court and paid $15 and that was it. hondacivic4drlx 02-12-2003, 07:31 AM my freind got coaught w/o his insurance card and they gave him a 400 fine, but then he took it to court and should them the insurance card and they made him pay a 5 dollar fine.;) BLU CIVIC 02-12-2003, 07:36 AM here in VA....when your insurance laps...the insurance company send the info to the DMV who in turn suspends your license and it costs you $500 to get insurance again:( djnoodle 02-12-2003, 10:13 AM i think they they are so backed up here in va that you can get away with it, i did. my insurance expired and they said they were going to tell the dmv but that was like a year ago, oh well. nothings happened yet, the car got towed 4 months ago and they just sent me a thing saying i need to register it even though the tow place auctioned it off. oh yeah, va is a commonwealth, in other words THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA SUX A$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least, this is the theory, no one has ever taken this to court. Any state government, or agency thereof, cannot legally under the US constitution demand that its citizens invest, pay for, or maintain any type of services from a private firm. In other words, a state cannot legally under the constitution make you pay for insurance. why? Yes, driving is a priviledge, which is why they have gotten away with it. Also, lots of lobby money in the insurance business to keep the right folks in government happy. BUT, ever read the fourth, or the fourteenth amendment? "...right to life, liberty, and property..." and by precedents set in cases like Roe v. Wade, (one Im sure you may have heard of), right to life liberty and property also include what you buy, and how you buy it, as well as your privacy and personal freedom to buy or not to buy. In other words, the government cant tell you to buy something. why is it still legal? any idea how much a class action suit against insurance companies and most of the lower 48 states would cost? not to mention how unlikely it would be that a higher court (ie: federal district, or federal appeals) would accept the case. so, I know that's a long one, but there ya go. I really hate insurance because the bastards know you have to have what they're sellin so they can fagoo ya good on premiums, and you have to pay. fuggerz fuggerz fuggerz. any questions, PM me. I teach this stuff, so I can fill in any blanks. just thought I'd add my $.02 khead717 02-13-2003, 10:28 PM yeah, nobody likes to pay for insurance... but what if you got hit by somebody that doesn't have insurance? then YOU would have to pay to repair the damage that you DIDN'T cause. djnoodle 02-14-2003, 10:35 AM i dont beleive you would have to pay, they still pay, just out of pocket wheel1856 02-15-2003, 02:07 PM nope, someone who doesnt have insurance is not likely to pay for the damage. and in order to get them to pay, you would have to pay a PILE in legal fees to get them to court n such, and even then you're still not guranteed to get it payed for. its a vicious cycle vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
