after losing intrest in my itr project i decided to get started on my Greddy rx 7

all i've done so far is paint the chassis and interior parts. last night i built the interior. i was looking my ref. pics and i noticed a boost gauge just above the steering column so i added one of DTM small gauges and drew on the dials with my Gundam Marker :alien:

any way enough small talk here are the pics

comments and suggestions are REQUIRED :) :)

Looking nice.
Were those details of those controls painted or is it decals?
But I think you should have painted the seats flat red, the red you have now looks a little too bright.

This is looking great man! The greddy rx-7 is one I plan to buy when I get good enough.

A newbie question: Did you paint the whites of the dials with gundam markers? How bout the black numbers etc can gundam markers be that precise? I've never seen/used them before.

thanks for the comments guys!

the white dials are decals from a scraped ITR and no the gumdam marker isnt that precise

about the seats, they arent painted yet, they come that color. i've painted the back of the seats flat black and i'm going to masking the black off and spraying the rest flat red

the dashbourd is half painted half decal.

BTW nothing has been glued down its just sitting there

Finally got some more work done on my GReddy

first on the agenda was to spray the seats flat red........done!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/566185greddyrecarosflat.JPG

next - scratchbuild myself an intercooler....... done!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/709509intercooler2.JPG

add pipes to the intercooler........ done!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/571684intercooler4pipes.JPG

paint the intercooler....... watch this space!

finally - make an opening for the intercooler...... done!
i had to cut out the opening in the front where the intercooler goes because Fugimi thought it would be cool if they blocked it up with a cheesy plastic one that was molded into the front bumper. it took alot of precision Demel work (oxymoron :silly2: ) but it looks alot better now
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/614501intercooleropening2.JPG

tomorrow is the big day of painting!!!

comments welcomed with chocolate :frog: :frog: :frog:

BTW: credit MUST be give to Chris for his outstanding How - To on intercoolers. seen here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59570&highlight=intercooler+styrene+putty

Hey awsome paint job!
I know its Tamiya TS-35 but what's the name of the colour?
Did this RX7 come with the nice wheels on the cover of the packaging or did it com with cheesy small ones?
Also shouldn't your intercooler have horizontal lines all along the front of it instead of just being flat?

Thanks

the first stage of decals have been added. i will be clear coating the body to seal the decals. my question is: should i put the reflector decals over the clearcoat of before i clear coat?

i haven't done much lately, except the window trim, panel lines, and the hood. this is my first time using a Gundam marker on the panel lines and i would highly recommend one to anybody. i used Tamiya's suggested method for the window trim by lightly scribing the edges with an Exacto knife and then brush painting them see it here http://www.tamiya.com/english/howto/car1/tip4.htm

:eek:WOW! Nice job so far. Did you put the CF on the hood or just paint it black?? Will look really much better with the rims that you've order from HLJ. Are you going to scratchbuild a rear difuser?? I'm planning to do this kit to.

the hood is sprayed semi-gloss black, there are way to many vents and curves in that hood for a decal

i would build a diffuser if i knew what it look like  do have any pics of one? essp. on the RX-7

Not to hijack your thread or anything but you can see this car in action in this movie (http://www.77ch.com/yokohama/ad07mobara_b.asx) . The RE-Amemiya is about 15 minutes into the movie.

Finally after nearly a month of stalling i got back to building my RX-7.
Unfortunately there has been a small disaster; my loving grandma dicided to do me a favour and pack up my RX-7 (without my knowledge) while i was curing a mild case of the munchies in the kitchen. she then come to tell me that she had knocked over a bottle of glue (plastic weld) on my work bench. i made a bee-line to my bench to investigate. And... the plastic weld had spilled all over the rear light cluster and the spoiler. i pulled them both out of the glue with tweasers and set them to dry so that i could sand and smooth them back into shape. my "self healing" cutting board was also ruined in the process.

i have now sanded the the two parts and preped them for painting, here are the pictures:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/379794deformedlight.JPG

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/247335deformedspoiler.JPG

after this set back i was mildly traumatized so i didnt make any progress for a while, but today i finally got back into it and painted my new aquired RE Ameniya AW-7's. i masked off the lip with liquid masking tape and airbrushing the inside testors *gold*. this was my first time airbrushing anything.

comments welcome.

PS: sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, i think the lens of the camera is a little smudged

 Those rims look great. Aren't those the ones that are on the real RE RX-7? Anyway, Fujimi really messed up this kit, IMO. The bodywork looks all funny, and the wheels look like they are pushed in. You did a great job though.

Jonno
04-13-2003, 06:55 PM
It is coming along very nicely. I was wondering what was going on with this kit.

Out of all the things the glue could hit, it had to be the clear part...didn't it! ;)

You might want to sand the glue off, and give the clear piece a bit of rub with compound and then some wax and it should make it clear again.

tc3house
04-13-2003, 08:11 PM
the rims are the exact ones that are on the real one, you can see my reference pictures one of the previous posts.

lucky for me the glue didnt smudge the lenses, but the top-half got the full blow. i'll try rubbing it with compound and was like you said :D ;)
