Society needs to stop bitchin about street racingintegra818 02-02-2003, 04:58 AM All you hear is "street racing is dangerous, street racing can get you killed". Yes, street racing CAN get you killed, but so can walkin down the street. If I didnt drive on the road daily and ONLY went to street races in clean spot, I would have alot less chance of crashing than someone driving here-and-there everyday. My point is, street racing is not as dangerous as people say it is, and people should stop bitchin about it. "Street racing gets people killed" OKay let's stop everything that gets people killed: skydiving, bullfighting, SMOKING, drinking alcohol, DRIVING. My point is, anything can get you killed and street racing is way safer than people think it is. think about it, would you rather be doin 100mph with one car next to you on an open road, or do 75mph with 10+ cars next to you with people who sometimes can't drive for shit. Street racing IS safe, you just gotta find the right racing spots. Just my .02 Fliquer 02-02-2003, 02:14 PM this is true crayzayjay 02-02-2003, 02:39 PM I'm sorry, your argument is too simplistic. Ok there are other dangerous things but some things have more potential for danger. about your 75mph comment, i'd rather be on the motorway doing 75, with the possibility of some people next to me not being very good drivers than racing someone at 100mph who thinks he's a good driver. Thats just a recipe for disaster... im not condeming street racing, nor approving of it, just saying it can be and often is dangerous DeViL 02-02-2003, 02:43 PM When you street race though you're putting other's lives in danger. Not everyone street races on abandoned rodes or when no one is around. You may do that but you do not represent every single person out there trying to race. It's scenarios like, you're going 100 mph racing someone else, and someone is trying to make a right. They don't really notice that you're going real fast so they pull out, you have no time to stop or react so wham you hit them, they die and so do you. Scenarios like that happen all the time and its those deaths that can be prevented if you weren't doing something stupid like street racing. That is what they mean by street racing is dangerous. dirk-diggler 02-02-2003, 03:02 PM Street racing is a very stupid thing to do, Cars are pretty much an intruder in this world and have no right of way, but a lot of drivers think they do. They're also a serious strain on our environment, I look around and all I see are stupid parking lots everywhere, there's waaaay too many cars on the road nowadays. Lets let some other beings besides people in their shiny boxes a chance to live! 93speed 02-02-2003, 07:21 PM Yes, street racing CAN get you killed, but so can walkin down the street. Or sometimes both happen at the same time :( OKay let's stop everything that gets people killed: skydiving, bullfighting, SMOKING, drinking alcohol, DRIVING. My point is, anything can get you killed and street racing is way safer than people think it is. think about it, would you rather be doin 100mph with one car next to you on an open road, or do 75mph with 10+ cars next to you with people who sometimes can't drive for shit. So you are willing to put YOUR life in the hands of some punk kid whom you've only known for 5 minutes? My point is, you DO NOT know how safe that driver is. Even if its the safest driver in the world, they are pushing a 2500+ lb car to its limit. Something can break, a tire can blow out, and a lot of other stuff can happen. Shit like this can and does happen all the time. Would you rather have an accident on the street or in a controlled environment, like a drag stip? How long do you want to wait for a paramedic? Street racing IS safe, you just gotta find the right racing spots. Like a racetrack maybe? I am not putting down street racing. I am simply providing the other side of the story. Its not as safe as you claim it to be. integra818 02-03-2003, 12:45 AM Sorry, guys I forgot to clear some things up. The street racing I wpould only do is in a street my brother found woith no enter or exit from either side, so a car can't pop up. I probably would'nt race someone I've known for only 5 minutes, I would race agiant a close buddy, or a friend of a friend who knows what he's doing. Street racing is sometimes safe I.M.O, depends where you race. Fliquer 02-03-2003, 02:58 AM Racing a car is like setting off fireworks. You have to know what could go wrong, what to do when something goes wrong, and where its appropriate to do it. Its only stupid people who dont take the dangers into consideration that give street racing a bad reputation. DemonZX 02-03-2003, 09:14 AM Everyone needs to think!...It has been around since the beggining of time, and it will be here after we are all long gone. Except, it may be called sky racing or something? 93speed 02-03-2003, 03:24 PM Originally posted by DemonZX Everyone needs to think!...It has been around since the beggining of time, and it will be here after we are all long gone. Except, it may be called sky racing or something? So that makes it O.K. ? Rape, Murder, Robbery, and Theft have been around since the beginning of time too. Does that make those crimes O.k.? Just because something is popular doesn't mean we should all do it. DemonZX 02-03-2003, 04:11 PM 93Speed: I don't belive that it is so much a crime, as it is just illegal. That may sound a little stupid but,...I don't know what i am trying to say. Rape, Murder, Robbery, and Theft, are all at one point premeditated, with maybe the exception of murder. Where the only one of those crimes may be compared with racing. The danger is there! It cannot be considered murder if that person chose to race. If an innocent bystander, or driver were killed then it is murder. What I am trying to say it has a huge following it always has. It has always been frowned upon, but people will not stop! It is really not a moraly wrong crime like all the others you listed. If you go off and have raced someone; at the pearly gates, or wherever you go, God is not going to say, "You should have never raced that prelude! To hell with you!" Now if there is an accident, and someone was injured or even worse killed, then I understand! What my point was is that it has been around since we've had horses to ride, and it will be here long after we are gone. crayzayjay 02-03-2003, 06:33 PM Sorry, some of the things that are being said are plain ridiculous. The only type of racing acceptable is organised racing, on a track, with proper safety measures and preparations. Fliquer, you may think you take the dangers into consideration but the truth may be very different because anything can happen when racing a fast car and when it does, being on some street really isnt the best idea. You say it yourself, its about taking dangers into consideration. the more you do that, the safer it is. so tell me, who takes danger into consideration the most? Organised track-day organisers. Its the only (safe) way crayzayjay 02-03-2003, 06:37 PM Originally posted by DemonZX If you go off and have raced someone; at the pearly gates, or wherever you go, God is not going to say, "You should have never raced that prelude! To hell with you!" Now if there is an accident, and someone was injured or even worse killed, then I understand! so basically youre saying it's ok if you get away with it. theres the risk of an injury every time you race, but if luck is with you, you really havent done anything wrong... great! what an idiotic argument! if something is irresponsible it doesnt make a difference if it ends well or not. if its irresponsible you shouldnt have done it in the first place 93speed 02-03-2003, 08:41 PM It has always been frowned upon, but people will not stop! It is really not a moraly wrong crime like all the others you listed. I understand the point you made. I never intended to compare the severity of racing with murder, etc. I was trying to say that they are both illegal and we shouldn't just let it go because it has been around forever. I dont' think people should just dismiss their fight over street racing. People have the right to frown upon street racing when their life is in danger. You don't know whether or not you could be one of those innocent bystanders. Thats why people frown upon it. Thats why I frown upon it. I don't want my life in the hands of two young kids in an ego contest. Fliquer 02-03-2003, 08:46 PM First off, the only drag racing I do is on closed streets (a la beginning of fast&furious). If I want to hit the twisties, I do it well within my car's grip levels, and where there are no blind turns. Also, track racing is limited to those who have the time, resources, money, and locale. I live 4 hours from the nearest non oval track, work for minimum wage on the weekends, and go to school during the weekdays. Whats more is I never race in an unfamiliar area, or in questionable conditions. Its true many things can go wrong with street racing, and its impossible to protect from every single eventuality immaginable. However, I believe that the level of danger I put myself in is negligible compared to the dangers of everyday driving. I dont think street racing should be legal, but I do think the police should concentrate on more important matters. Allocating a dozen units and a helicopter to break up a street racing event is hardly what I consider tax dollars well spent... Polygon 02-03-2003, 08:49 PM Now I think that some of you need to define the variables of what you think is alright and what you don't. Street racing can range from dragging on an open road light to light or it can be weaving in and out of heavy traffic. Honestly, I see nothing wring with going light to light on a relatively empty road. I have done that many times, I have even done it on Friday nights on main roads. I try not to go too far above the speed limit before shutting down, and no where near 100MPH, that is insane. That fastest I have hit while racing before shutting down was 70MPH and that was on an empty road. KrNxRaCer00 02-03-2003, 11:19 PM i think all of us can say we've raced an seen wut our cars can do. im not saying that street racing is safe, nor am i going to say that it is stupid. i agree with him that in certain time/places/situations, then it can be somewhat safe. everytime that u do go out an race, u do put urself an the other driver on the line. i don't agree with people racing in an out of traffic, that is jus stupid, but if u are off on a street with no turns/people on it, then i do feel that it can be alrite. keep it safe, and be smart, stay outta the ground. DemonZX 02-04-2003, 04:12 PM Thank you Poly for understand what I was trying to say. I just couldn't get it out. You are not going to see me doing 120 weaving in and out of traffic. But a little light to light action aint so bad. Like he said everyone has done it. If you say you haven't well, you are 1 of 2 things...either lying, or you don't have a car. R1-rider 02-04-2003, 04:45 PM I usually do not do light to lights, because those are infact more dangerous for me on a motorcycle then doing a highend open run. When I am coming off the line at a light, unless I am racing something slow (13+second car), my wheels are always fighting for traction, and when they find it my front wheel wants to go airborne. Plus I can hit the speed limit so fast, that a car main turn out seeing that the light just turned green and figuring he has a good 4 seconds before any cars will get to him, but I am already there. So its a tough call alot of the time when racing light to light for me, I would much rather be going 160mph down an empty stretch of freeway then punching it off the line. crayzayjay 02-05-2003, 03:11 PM do traffic lights in the states still go from red to green, missing out amber in between? i saw a programme on road safety with an American cop talking about new measures introduced to reduce the number of accidents... he said that they'd just started using the amber light instead of going straight from red to green and vice versa, or else it was that they just delayed both lights at red for a few seconds on a junction so cars wouldnt jump red lights and crash into others... so whats the deal? The amber only comes in to play going from green to red. dirk-diggler 02-11-2003, 06:39 PM Street racing is the safest way to prove your manhood. DemonZX 02-12-2003, 12:17 PM Did it post how fast the Viper was going?! I don't know why everything has to be an argument. I don't think it is that unsafe when you hit 40-60mph on a fairly empty road, which is the speed limit there anyway. I agree if you want 1/4 mile times...go to the track...a little 0-60, light to light, on a empty road is not a sin. dirk-diggler 02-12-2003, 05:00 PM It is if the speed limit is 35 and you kill someone, just to try to make yourself look cool. I got a better idea, a guy grabs a pair of socks, rolls them up in a ball and shoves them in his pants, that will get him as much attention. Here in the US you can drive at 70, kill someone and not get charged, and if your license gets revoked you always get it back. Here we need as many drivers on the road as possible, to feed the economy. Here the meaning of life is to consume and produce automobiles, that is our lifestyle. What needs to happen is people need to understand this and instead of trying to stop it, try to make the safest enviroment for it to happen in. Think about this, what if cops(with ambulance&firetrucks) would close down a 1/4mile section of road every month and charge<not an arm and a leg, maybe just like 20 bucks> for people to race on it. It would make the city money, keep other drivers safe, and the people wanting to street race could do their thing. Its just like smoking, no matter how bad you say it is, it will never go away. But you can make places where it is ok to smoke and places where its not ok to smoke. Yes, I know there are race tracks and drag strips, but only if you feel like driving 100 mile to get to one. There are always answers to questions, you just have to think of the best answer. integra818 02-13-2003, 07:44 PM Originally posted by dolla_bill0913 Street racing will always be out there, no matter what anyone says or does. Do you know ANY of us? No, you don't so don't go making assumptions on other people when you know nothing about them, that is ignorance. 2. Fine, if you plan on being here a long time, let me get one thing straight with you: don't come in here and throw any street racing thread off topic with your anti-street racing jargon. I won't put up with it. There are plenty of other forums here to visit if you don't like street racing, I suggest you pick one. 3. How do you know none of us have lost a loved one to someone else’s stupidity? Once again, you don't. There are some here that have lost loved ones in incidents of road rage and drunk drivers, all of which they were the victim and not the aggressor. Street racing kills far less people than drunk drivers and aggressive drivers do. Also why don't you protest rally racing as well? More spectators die than drivers do, and I mean FAR more. 4. I will disagree with you and I will tell you that I have no mental instabilities, and you making a statement like that is entirely ignorant towards anyone here. Your statements seem childish, ignorant, and naive. I am just letting you know that you aren't off to the best start here. I am closing this thread because it is going to turn into a flaming pile of crap if I leave it open. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
