Post your 2nd generation Cavalier speeds?www.rcjon.com 01-29-2003, 02:30 PM Whats your top speed of your 2nd generation cavalier? Mine is 105mph. Stock. with 3speed auto and 2.2liter It does 0-60mph in 13sec Anyone upgrade there's any to make it faster? Please post your speeds chevyfreak 01-29-2003, 04:48 PM What do you mean by 2nd Gen???? what years would that include? www.rcjon.com 01-29-2003, 05:17 PM 90-95 i think...the older model. Pikachoo 01-29-2003, 07:47 PM There were two "phases" of the second gen cavaliers... The second generation began in 1988. In 88 and 89, the Z24's still had the 2.8, but from 1990 through '94 the Z24 got a 3.1 liter V6, basically a stroke out version of the 2.8. So 1991-94 became the "Phase II" 2nd gen, while 1988-90 was the "Phase I". My Phase 1 tops out at 112, with a 3 speed auto, 165,000 miles, original motor. I hate auto's.... I have a lot more speed left in the car.. but when I get to 112, if I try to push the gas down any farther it tries to jump down into the lower gear, and I redline.:bloated: www.rcjon.com 01-29-2003, 09:51 PM I just have the standard model and it goes to 105...the spedo only goes to 100mph so im not really sure after that. It has a 2.2 liter. I know there is a 160hp turbo engine that is 2liter for 89,90 cavaliers. I want to get that engine for my car. Also does anyone know if i can get a 5 speed put in my cavalier? bowtiebandit 01-29-2003, 10:20 PM If you have enough money anything is possible. Got one at work with a blown engine I can see if the owner wants to sell it. www.rcjon.com 01-30-2003, 06:30 AM What do you mean its blown? How much will that cost to fix? Does anyone know if this is a good engine in general? Since you live in maryland could you ask how much he would sell it for? Pikachoo 01-30-2003, 08:35 AM Originally posted by www.rcjon.com Also does anyone know if i can get a 5 speed put in my cavalier? Do it yourself!! I hope to do this (http://www.v6z24.com/mods/howto/?page=trannyswap) project over the summer. It sounds pretty intense... but doing stuff is the only way to learn about your car. mdb25 01-30-2003, 03:47 PM I have a 1988 Z with a 5speed, all stock, no mods, and I've pegged it at 120mph. Was about 4800rpm. Gotta love 5 speed! www.rcjon.com 01-30-2003, 04:09 PM How much would a 5speed cost to put in my auto cavalier Pikachoo 01-31-2003, 08:02 AM Originally posted by mdb25 I have a 1988 Z with a 5speed, all stock, no mods, and I've pegged it at 120mph. I envy you guys with non-auto's!! How much would a 5speed cost to put in my auto cavalier I'm still looking around for a junkyard that has all the parts I need. I estimate it will be a little under $1,000, but I'm still looking. mdb25 01-31-2003, 12:44 PM I have no guess as to the cost, but I'll bet that it's going to be a lot. Probably more than the car's worth. It's probably best just to look for another car with a manual tranny. Cavaliers aren't hard to come by. Especially the older models with the 2.8 and the 3.1 They're fairly cheap, even the one's in nice condition. You'd probably spend just as much buying anther car as you would spend for a tranny swap. Good luck dude. PS if you can.... go for the 3.1. It's a lot stronger than the 2.8. If ytou want my opinion, the best year for 2nd gen Z's was 1990. I like the 2tone body style of the 88-90 Z's but the only year that style came with the 3.1 was 1990. www.rcjon.com 01-31-2003, 04:14 PM Please some 0-60mph top speed 1/4 mile Times bowtiebandit 02-04-2003, 06:11 PM She said she'd take 100 bucks for the whole car. www.rcjon.com 02-04-2003, 07:26 PM My moms Celebirty station wagon has a 3.1 v6, same that is in the Z-24 i do believe. Anyways i drove it today. It does 0-60mph in 11sec and burnsout too. My cavalier never does that usually. Check out my web site for more on this car and mine www.rcjon.com/carconnection I just updated it with a new article 91Z24AUDIO 02-27-2003, 07:21 PM I had a 1989 Cav with a 2.0 and 5 speed it was clocked at 124,it had modified exhaust as in no cat and a Flowmaster, all else was stock.Im currently working on my 1991 Z24,its going to have a supercharged 3.1 with nitrous and a 5 speed,Ill keep ya posted. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
