917 Porsche Laser Kit Car.Scott 02 01-29-2003, 08:32 AM Does anyone own one? I seen one once and it looked awsome. Just wondering what all it took to get one or to make on price wise. Midnight Racer 03-25-2003, 01:37 PM Scott 02 03-29-2003, 05:25 AM thanks for that link. gigatron 06-01-2003, 12:15 AM :eek2: That car is ugly! Scott 02 06-01-2003, 12:19 PM That car is ugly! Why? you know it would turn heads going down the street. 85% of people would love to have one just for its looks. Drfthis 06-02-2003, 01:11 AM hey I say that car once, in (Speed Racer ):p better run it's got retractable buzzsaw blades it's prety neat, knowing Porsche it wiil probly top out near 150mph or more cool Scott 02 06-03-2003, 03:46 PM I doubt the kit cars will top out at that speed knowing some had Corvair and VW engines. db6 06-03-2003, 05:32 PM :hehe: Its the ugliest car I've seen in ages! :hehe: 99' Z-28 07-01-2003, 07:43 PM Awsome kit car. I seen on for-sale once. Like you said scott, it had the corvair engine in it. So i doubt it was fast.. laforg 08-23-2003, 11:54 AM Apparently your friend has never seen VW Drags...times in the low 10's. A turbocharged Corvair can be faster than some Corvettes. My 917 has a 2 liter modified VW in it and with the extra overdrive tops out around 175. Your freind needs to understand that "Big Motor" sometimes compensates for little .........you get the idea. Porsche, Honda, Datsun, these have all been racing with 4 cylinders for years. And yes, the Laser is VERY cool. pod 11-03-2003, 10:29 AM ugly my ass that is one of my all time dream cars just look at the gt-1 cars of the era its one of the best looking btw the original had twin turbo v12 engone pushing 985hp and 1150ftlb jhillyer 11-28-2003, 08:46 PM The paint work is freaking ugly, but reminds me of the disgusting color schemes of the Space Era. I don't believe in partial wheel obscurity. Masque the wheel just enough to get to the lugs, or completely masque it, else don't bother. The rear would benefit with more skirting just behind the wheel. The ass has cheap tinted acrylic plating, and it's 917 badge is crooked. I don't think anyone has yet termed it gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. This forum needs to permit <img> tag/containers. blasian_man 11-28-2003, 08:51 PM the paint makes it look like those kiddie rides you put a quarter in at amusement parks pod 01-25-2004, 09:40 PM still if you had seen one in person you would give those drivers a shit load of respect that car is the pureist racecar ive ever seen hell those bastards sat in steel seats and drove them for 24 hrs. i suppose that would be a dream for the porsche 959 dakar racer though MoshimoGTP 05-16-2004, 01:58 AM i agree with gigatron..!! 59elcooldsuv 05-17-2004, 02:02 PM Horrible! absolutely disgusting! Pack it up & send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you in an environmentally safe manner so that it won't harm the children in your neighborhood. Get it off the streets before you get us all in trouble. You can hide it in my garage. MITSU-EVO 05-17-2004, 04:17 PM Honestly, even though I love the way Porsche are designed and engineered, I'm not a big fan 917's either... Ken Foss 05-22-2006, 12:49 AM I've had my 917 for 21 years and I've had my share of sport cars. This car gets more attention than any car I've ever had. Now that I have a family its time to buy a home. YES, Im selling my toy :frown: . I wish I could put pictures on here but I dont know how. If anyone would like to see a awesome ride I can e-mail you pictures. stages_504@hotmail.com sterlingnights 05-14-2007, 09:56 PM The original Porsche 917 had a naturally assperated V-12 at about 716 horses if i remeber my numbers correctly and when That car was finally banned from runing the lemmans because it was far out classing any other viehical and for three years in a row took 1st and second place and two of those thre even got third place so the lemmans racing board told porsche that the 917 was no longer permited in the race so Porsche came out with the 917K witch was the twin turbo v12 that one was once again after two or three years banned from the lemmans again and that was the last Porsche ever did any thing with the 917 model only two hundred a year were made and then given away at the lemmans the only reason Porsche ever made them was to compete in the lemmans and in order to do so your car had to be considered a production car which at the time meant two hundred or more of them were built a year this car was never meant to be sold to the general public. But she is a beauty and a beast not many cars even to day could beat her either one 917 or the 917k. unfortunately the most you'll ever see of that car is a kit but there still fun. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
