I about to start work on a Tameo 1/43 F1-2000, but I need a good red for the body work (ideally jar paint available in the UK as I want to airbrush it). Does any one have any sugestions - I'm not sure how bright it should be and I don't want to trust photographs as I find they can tone down very bright reds (the Marlboro McLarens for example)

I known Tamiya has a special colour for cars like this. I'ts TS8 (Italian red). But I'm not sure if you can get them to airbrush.

I thought too that Tamiya make a special colour, but only in spray can form, but I thought the code was TS-49, the colour used for the Malboro sponsored Mitsubishi WRC's.
You might find that with a bit of searching it is possibly the same colour as the Tommi Makinen Evo VI's (the special editions with the stripes), if you can get a colour code then your local automotive paint supplier should be able to help (my local branch of Autopaint International is very helpful and said he can mix small quantities of paint for use with an airbrush).

I thought the correct red for the Ferrari is TS-49 too?

TS-49 Bright Red over white or pink base. TS-8 is better for Street cars which are not as bright as racecars. just spray into jar and airbrush it.

There is a useful little tutorial on this site which explains quite well how to take paint out of a spray can without making a huge mess:

Thought it may be useful here.....

Tameo had the F1-2000 color. (the real car paint) but you also can use TS-49 bright red or Gunze #79 Shine Red, make no different. But if you got intention in doing F2001 onward, then TS-49 or #79 cannot be used anymore because the real car is more orange than red, then you might ask jimbob to mix for you or buy from Tameo themselve. :p
