Hmm... Well Subaru is probably suppling to Canada first because of their low population, New York state has a larger population than Canada!

The USA has a larger population than Canada (New York State has a larger population than Canada!) so Subaru is probably supplying Canada first for that reason, other than that... IDK

Actually, it is available in all areas, BUT there is only 2 available per dealership for 2003, in the new year they should be more freely available.

not really, it depends on how many the dealer have sold previously.

Meh. I'm looking for an Evo now. Too many issues with the 2.5. Guess you can't beat the old standards after all. And when the Evo can keep up with the STi with 28 LESS Hp , and just plain stomp it in the corners...........................theres something wrong there. :screwy:
I'll spend the $32,300 and get a car with an engine with an impressive history , instead of something Subaru had to throw together to compete......... :loser:

Even though this thread may be dying. I would like to say that I believe the STi is a better purchase decision over the Evo 8. There are many reasons as to why, but there are two factors most camparison's seem to leave out. Reliability and Resale value. Mitsubish has a poor reliability issue. Mitsubish is also making like three times the Evo's as Subaru is with their STi. After owning a vehicle for 2-3 years, is my car going to hold its value better than others? While owning my vehicle, will I be plagued by manufacturer defects?

Some say that the Evo's handling is better than the STi's. Although this may be true to some, the STi's handling may be best when it comes to a livable set up. Let's face it, our public streets aren't as smooth as race tracks in most cases.

I also think that the Sti's looks are better, especially on the interior. I've put on 3,200 miles so far and am loving every mile. I must admidt, this was the car I've wanted forever...so I may be biased...just a little.

The Evo vs. STi essentially comes down to opinion. The cars are so incredibly close performance-wise that it's not worth arguing that point. Styling depends on an individual's taste. Potential resale value is arguable as well.

I say, if you want an STi, get an STi. If you want an Evo, get an Evo.

I say, if you want an STi, get an STi. If you want an Evo, get an Evo.

What if I want both? :grinno:

The EVO's stock tires are wider and stickier than the STi's. That alone could account for the EVO's supposed better handling. Also, once testers have been given enough time in the STi to get used to the behavior of the front diff, it has shown to be faster than the EVO on the same tracks where the same testers were initially faster in the EVO.

MB38
09-28-2003, 02:45 PM
Whatever the reasons for the Evo's better performance are, the fact is, it performed better.

Taking into account the front diff, lets say that they took the two cars, with full knowledge of how each performs, to a track, and the STi wins. There's enough of a dollar-difference there that one could still call the Evo a winner. If you've got $30,995 to spend, you could easily buy an Evo and throw those spare dollars under the hood. A $31,000 Evo would beat the STi in every [performance] test, regardless of how used to the STi's front diff the driver is.

The Evo comes out on top for me, but as I said in my last post, it's all a matter of personal opinion. The Evo may be a better bang-for-buck car that beats the STi in essentially every test stock, but, like most arguments of this kind, it always comes down to personal opinion. It's like arguing Macs vs. PCs. The Mac may be faster, sleeker and cost less than a comparable PC, but, regardless of the facts, most of you will blindly say "PCs are better because Macs suck!" One could also equate the argument to Tomatoes vs. Tomahtoes, though with less [no] data either way. Personal opinion, once again.

The only way to settle this argument is for you all to save up and buy me one of each.
