The 1/12 `67 Corvettes are painted; in progress pics and question inside...Hawk312 01-12-2003, 04:48 PM Here are pics of my 1/12 scale 427 Vettes that are waiting to be rubbed out. The one was sprayed with plastikote primer, then about 10 coats of duplicolor yellow, followed by about 10 coats of TS-16 yellow. I found that red plastic is really hard to cover, and yellow is the hardest to cover it with. :D The other one has about 10 coats of duplicolor Bordeaux red followed by about 12-15 coats of clear. Since these are so big and I probably wont build anymore this size, I wanted them to be perfect. So, which one dlo you guys want to see first? The yellow one will have the black stinger on the hood with the stock turbine wheels. The red burgandy one will have rallye wheels similar to what was on my 1/12 scale Camaro, and the black stinger on the hood. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/497305Image1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/938147Image2.jpg flyonthewall 01-12-2003, 04:59 PM Beautiful! I'd like to see that red sucker first;) daggerlee 01-12-2003, 05:20 PM What kind of clear? I want the yellow! Hawk312 01-12-2003, 05:24 PM The clear used on the red one was dupli-color. It rubs out very well, and is really cheap. 1 yellow, and 1 red vote so far.:) daggerlee 01-12-2003, 05:31 PM BTW, how many cans of TS-16 did you use? Do you polish the duplicolor paint at all before applying the duplicolor clear? Hawk312 01-12-2003, 05:36 PM So far, I used 4 four cans of TS-16 if I recall correctly. I am going on my fifth. I could have gotten away with 2 or 3, but I screwed up the panel lines and had to wetsand an repaint it. I`m a little concerned about wetsanding though, since this stuff is so translucent. I didn`t polish the dupli color color at all. I dont think I even wetsanded before the clear coats, though I did sand in between the 6th and 7th coat of clear. Hiroboy 01-12-2003, 06:42 PM How makes this kit, as it look very good Steve Hawk312 01-12-2003, 07:35 PM Monogram makes it, and yes, it is a very good kit. It seems to have excellent detail, and the proportions are almost perfect, except for the tires, which are a little on the skinny side. It`s kinda hard to find this kit now though. I think it was made in the late 80`s/early 90`s, and was realeased along with two other excellent kits, the `69 Z28 Camaro and `57 Chevy BelAir, in 1/12 scale. tonioseven 01-12-2003, 07:55 PM Originally posted by flyonthewall Beautiful! I build 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 934 before, so I know how terrible to paint such a BIG BODY. you done so good!! Suislide 01-12-2003, 08:45 PM HOLY SHINE BATMAN! nice work hawk, i can't wait to see EITHER of those done! COZMO6476 01-12-2003, 09:01 PM unbelievable work! you definitely do those models justice. cant wait to see them finished Rob bah humbug 01-12-2003, 09:13 PM OMG thats beautiful !!! If you polish that we're all going to be blinded! It's so shiny already ! I must stop you from blinding AF ! :machinegu That was korny, I just wanted to use that smilie, I think it looks cool. Hawk312 01-13-2003, 12:11 AM First of all, thanks everyone!! You`s all are too kind! :) All I did was hold the spray nozzle down so far, though.;) ;) That maroon color (the red one) for some reason came out really "deep", like a candy color. I highly recommend trying it. Actually, the pictures look quite dull compared to the real color, and I was kinda disappointed the first time I downloaded them from the camera. So far I count 3 red (Maroon) and 1 yellow? I guess I`ll start with the red one first then, and primer the bottom and then do the typical overspray of the body color like they came from the factory. I started assembling the engine block tonight, and I`ll primer that as well tomorrow. if I remember right you said 'Maroon' before. that's the one? Yep, thats it. I think it is close to a Cranberry color they had that year. kunta 01-13-2003, 12:40 AM Originally posted by Hawk312 Yep, thats it. I think it is close to a Cranberry color they had that year. I see... I've checked vette catalog book. it says 'Marlboro Maroon'. but I'm sure your color is more splendid than that. anyway, I really look forward to seeing this last C2 finished model and big block 427 heart. ;) Honoturtle 01-13-2003, 01:33 AM Burgandy!!! Looks awesome! Yellow looks nice aswell! Monogram should re-issue these for us modelers who want them now! I really liked your Camaro and wanted to make a replica of my dad's old SS! bigfrit 01-13-2003, 04:57 AM   Can you say SHINY ????  It's the holy mother of shine!! wonderful Jonno 01-13-2003, 05:17 AM Looks nice and shiney :smoka: . Build the red one first. :D Bobj 01-13-2003, 06:24 AM awesome work, and go the yellow. Hawk312 01-13-2003, 09:03 AM Hono, You can actually find these kits on Ebay at decent prices. I managed to get both of these for under $30 if I remember correctly, which is a bargain considering the size and detail of these kits. The 427 in this kit is a great replica itself. Jay! 01-13-2003, 04:23 PM Red one! :D :D :D Camber 01-13-2003, 05:08 PM The Red one!! What kind of primer did you use? That finish is sooo shiny. I might try these paints on my next car. COZMO6476 01-13-2003, 05:16 PM Originally posted by Hawk312 All I did was hold the spray nozzle down so far, though.;) you, me, and everyone else thats sprayed a can of paint knows that it takes skills to get a shine like that. great job. cant wait to see the engine detail. Rob rcmaxx 01-21-2003, 03:12 AM are there any updates on these? I just got one myself. primera man 01-21-2003, 06:34 AM RED..RED..RED..RED..RED..RED..RED..RED..RED..RED Hawk312 01-21-2003, 08:56 AM Ok, here is the update. I am working on the RED car first (there you go, guys :) ). So far, I have rubbed out the finish and it looks pretty deep. I spent the last two nights foiling around the windows trying to get it just right. So far, I am really pleased with the results. The engine block is assembled and painted though without all the accessories and manifolds. I am going to rub that out shortly. All engine peices are painted, as well as the chasis. So all that is left is the suspension and interior, and of course assembly. I am really anxious to get this done, and I`ll post pictures as soon as I can. Purpura Delujo 01-22-2003, 09:53 PM They look awesome Hawk, I would of voted to see the yellow one done first if I was on AF when you made this thread. I was going to but that 1/12 57 Belair you mentioned, it was only $60 AUSD I had the money but I wanted my Roadrunner and my Superbird, so I didn't get it. They both will look great when done, I probably won't be on AF when you finish them either :( Well I'll track them down somehow. SuPeRcAr_MaN 01-22-2003, 09:55 PM  I can't wait to see the finished products. Hawk312 01-22-2003, 10:16 PM I probably won't be on AF when you finish them either :( Where are you going? It was cool to have someone else here who shared interest in muscle cars. Purpura Delujo 01-22-2003, 10:37 PM I'm just at my dads, I won't be leaving AF for awhile yet. Dad has no interent but has a computer, thats where I scan my model pics, do my models etc. I finished my Roadrunner a couple days ago, started on the El Camino that Antonio sent me & I've done 60% of the Superbird. Nearly finished my redone 67 Mustang & I've got many ideas for my next batch of models (9 of them) that I will get sometime next month. It was cool to have someone else here who shared interest in muscle cars. Yeah same with me, also cool for me to be around someone who owns a Chicken ;) . Hash_man 01-22-2003, 11:00 PM Hey Hawk... they look awesome so far... I would have said the red one first too.. I think my dad has the same kit, is it a 3 n 1?? if so thats the one, its damn huge... me and him tried painting it about 3 times but he never likes the colour of red that we get... I cant wait to see progress pics. Ranger_X 01-23-2003, 01:03 AM It was cool to have someone else here who shared interest in muscle cars. Hey, there are a few of us! ;) Its lookin real good, glad you're startin on the red one and I can't wait to see more of it! :) Murco 01-23-2003, 02:09 AM How the hell did this thread slip under my radar?!?!?! Hawk, those look fabu~!! You have to try the new MCG detail set for these, AWESOME!!!!! Model Car Garage detail set (http://www.modelcargarage.com/mcg_display_item.cfm?m=2236&rp=0) If you have time, I can detail the scripts for you to make them POP!! Thought you might also enjoy this, my fathers old '67 Tri-power 427/435 roadster. Notice the skinny tires, they are the originals. The car had 18K miles on it when this picture was taken in 1984. It's hard to imagine this car ever having traction. It's even harder to imagine they lasted 18K miles with my dad smoking them all the time, he really did!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/89322567vetteresize.jpg Hawk312 01-23-2003, 01:06 PM .. I think my dad has the same kit, is it a 3 n 1?? Yep. Except for the fact that some of the parts are molded in red, I really like this kit. The 427 engine is baaaaadd! You have to try the new MCG detail set for these, AWESOME!!!!! I notice some of them are corvette badges for the outside of the car. Will I need to sand the ones on the car down first? Thought you might also enjoy this, my fathers old '67 Tri-power 427/435 roadster. I would love to have that! Did you ever get to ride in it? What was it like? I noticed on alot of these cars, they have silver ignition cables. What is the deal with that? I almost have the engine finished, and the chassis is next. So it is going together pretty well so far. Hopefully I`ll have pics in the next couple weeks! Murco 01-23-2003, 11:30 PM Originally posted by Hawk312 I would love to have that! Did you ever get to ride in it? What was it like? I drove it quite often and even took my driving test in it! It actually drove very well considering the 1967 technology. It had tons of power but you had to be going straight before hitting the gas as it could actually smoke the tires through 3rd gear. Otherwise it was very well mannered, comfortable, tracked very well, and we had it until 1993 when my father sold it to help expand the business... I miss it! I noticed on alot of these cars, they have silver ignition cables. What is the deal with that?[/QUOTE] All Corvettes had them, or a shield, from 1965 to 1980 unless it was a radio-delete car. The covers were used to reduce RFI (radio noise) as fiberglass didn't block the waves like steel would in a normal car. Yeah, the MCG set requires sanding the scripts off....bummer! :( vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
